Shaun talked about mistakes and lessons learned along the way as they figured out how to design technology and systems, and the work he is currently doing with Mustimuhw to design an Indigenous Digital Health Ecosystem. He implored us to focus on sustainability as we go forward. #databack
Quote from Chelsea Nakogee: Before we can talk about Indigenous Data Sovereignty, I think we have to acknowledge Indigenous sovereignty, period, and their inherent rights as nations and peoples prior to colonization. This means acknowledging that the western way is not always the right way, and that a one-size-fits-all approach cannot always be taken.
Chelsea provided specific examples of how the Ontario MCCSS is using Indigenous Data without consultation, and disregarding opposition from rights holders. They’re doing this under the guise of privacy, and with no respect for the principles of OCAP®. She lists 3 specific calls to action. #databack
