Heute - Touriprogramm Tallinn. Ich war das letzte mal vor 20 Jahren hier. Anlässlich der #Debian #Debconf 2005 in Helsinki. Ein paar tage dran gehängt und mit der Schnellfähre nach Tallinn. Ein paar sachen im Hafen habe ich auch sofort wiedererkannt. Die Alko-Shops für die Finnen.

何故、DebConfは日本で未開催なのか？自由の闘士を来日させる道程 Debian Projectが毎年開催している開発者会議「DebConf」というイベントがある。もう随分と長い歴史があるのだが、一度として日本で開催したことはない。日本ではDebian GNU/Linuxが受け入れられていないからだろうか？ いやいや、Debian開発者を数百人も結集させる希少性のある機会が日本企業にとっても魅力的に映る時期もあったので、これまでに何度もDebConf招致を検討はされてきた。しかし、自分が知る限りではすぐに計画が構想段階で立ち消えになってきたのである。そもそも、日本ではDebConfを開催するための条件をクリアすることが非常に難しいという問題があるからだ。 DebConfは、世界中からDebian Projectのメンバーが結集する約二週間のイベントである。昔は一週間のDebConfだけだったような気がするが、今ではDebCampというイベントをDebConf直前の一週間で開催する形式となっている。一般的な技術カンファレンスとは趣きが異なり、総じて長期滞在での共同開発作業を前提としたハッカーのためのイベントなのである。 そのような性質のイベントのため、単に講演のための大きな部屋を揃えるだけでなく、小規模トークルームや24時間利用できるハックスペースを用意する必要もあり、それらの部屋には豊富な電源とネットワーク設備を提供しなければならない。また、自費で世界中から渡航してくるDebian開発者らに対して、最大で二週間の期間における食事を含めた滞在支援も必要である。これらは予算さえ注ぎ込めば何とかクリアできる会場を探すことはできるかもしれないが、長期に渡っての会場確保、施設における防犯上の利用制限、あるいはそもそも予算との大幅な乖離から、どうしても日本での開催は実現が難しいという結論になってしまうのである。 ただ、日本でも可能性がないとは言い切れず、企業や自治体の研修施設を格安で貸してもらえることはあるかもしれないし、大昔のような全ての物価が高い日本ではなく、むしろ物価が安い日本となった今では再検討できる余地はあるかもしれない。また、企業や自治体よりもおそらく地方の大学には可能性があるのだろう。特に情報科学系に強く、寮を保有する大学が理想的であり、DebConfの一般的な開催期間中は通常であれば夏休み期間であるので最も望ましいと考えられる。つまり、直球で答えれば、北陸先端大や奈良先端大のような大学を動かせれば良いわけだ。ただし、昨今の大学という機関が置かれている状況を考えると、物好きな教授らがいたとしても相当にハードルは高いのだろう。 自分が今更ながらこのようなことを書いたのは、チラッと日本でのDebConf開催を模索している人達の噂を小耳に挟んだからである。Debian開発者という数百人の自由の闘士というかヒッピー風のよく分からないハッカーらをこの日本に結集させるというのは単純に面白い。Big Techが莫大な利益を追い求める昨今においても、多くの国内企業のシステムにおいてDebianの成果に乗っかる部分は大きいわけであるし、また、多くの日本人に自分達のシステムを支えている存在の生き様を見てもらうという意味もあるだろう。 このような無謀な計画というか妄想を実現させようとする動きは自分としては非常に好ましいと思っている。数年以内に日本でのDebConf開催が実現してくれることを願っている。 ### 共有: * クリックして X で共有 (新しいウィンドウで開きます) X * Facebook で共有するにはクリックしてください (新しいウィンドウで開きます) Facebook * いいね 読み込み中… ### _関連_

2014 was also the year of my first participation at a #DebConf (Heidelberg). Altough I couldn't make it in the last years, they are always a great inspiration, and it is great to meet my fellows in person. The Debian project is really a great team!
