It was way after midnight when I went to bed last night. My final #DecemberDecisions of 2025 #Day31, yesterday, is spending the day cooking and clearing (with a break to play Catan) before having friends over for the evening, for food and games.

Today was my first day at home, just for pottering, since Christmas and all the lead up to it. This was very good, but I could do with a few more day like it! #DecemberDecisions #Day30

Today, aged forty-something, I bought towels for the 1st time.

We’ve always had hand-me-downs/presents before & it was hard to decide which to get. I won’t be keen on them till they’ve been washed a few times-they’re so soft at the moment they feel like blankets not towels #DecemberDecisions #Day29

The Catan board game. A blue hexagon with lots of different coloured hexagons inside it. Each hexagon has a round number tile in it. There are blue and red counters around several of the hexagons. The instruction booklet is visible in the corner.

This afternoon my son and I worked out how to play Catan (his Christmas present from us). After some confusion at the instructions not explaining the whys, we got into it - my son with strategy, me more winging it! I have lots to learn… #DecemberDecisions #Day28

It got too late yesterday for my #DecemberDecisions #Day28. I will note the deciding to stay home during the first trip to the park in the morning, in order to do vegetable prep, enabling going out to the second trip to the park in the afternoon. Yummy Christmas dinner, rather late!

Today we had a big family pre-2nd ‘Christmas Day’ evening (A 2nd Christmas Eve?). Lots of fun with cooking and dinner and games and a few presents (more tomorrow!). Lovely to see the changes in my siblings’ children. And to see them all generally. #DecemberDecisions #Day26

Today I finally gave in the request (over many years) that we should watch Live Actually with our children. And (unsurprisingly) the things I knew were problematic stopping us watching it a few years ago are different from things I know are problematic with this film now! #DecemberDecisions #Day24

Today we finished rewatching The Good Place (brilliant show!).

We have recently been watching season 2 of Man on the Inside (both with Ted Danson shows). There is a lovely link - if you know you know!

(Haven’t finished watching the later programme yet) #DecemberDecisions #Day23

This afternoon I spent an hour in a bookshop choosing present books, mostly for children. This is a fun thing to do, though kind of harder as children get older. #DecemberDecisions #Day22

Today, along with loads of jobs around the house and prep for Christmas, I have been wherever possible reading my book (Patrick Stewart’s memoir, Making It So), which is amazing. #DecemberDecisions #Day21

Despite finishing a book today that I’d been reading a while, I was 3 books behind target (read 90 by the end of the year). My daughter said I should get back into Babysitters Club graphic novels & brought me a couple. I read 1 in an hour-worth it, not only for my target! #DecemberDecisions #Day20

This evening my daughter went out to sing Christmas carols with neighbours on our estate. The first time this happened was in 2020 (slightly differently), so this post is both #DecemberDecisions #Day19 and #FiveYearsOn (which I’ll be reprising for a while in January).

This evening was a Christmas event at chess club. Great to chat with friends and eat yummy food (and vaguely watch on while people played Lightening Chess). Unfortunately I slipped on the mud getting out of the car coming home and have a sore knee #DecemberDecisions #Day18

Yesterday, #DecemberDecisions #Day17, was a good day, with many interesting conversations at work. It was also a day with unexpected things at home, leading to me being non-stop from 6:30pm to 3:30am. All fine (will be) but an eg of the fact that we can make plans and then find life gets in the way.

This evening I went for a rare dinner with just my original family (my parents & my brother & sister). While it is wonderful when the whole big lot of us get together, being just 5 of us is a different atmosphere, different conversation. #DecemberDecisions #Day16 (glad we decided on this, weeks ago)

Today I had the day off work on leave & went Christmas shopping with my mum. This was both great to be spending the day together chatting & because I actually bought lots. Loads more to do, but it was significant progress. & good to have time at home pottering this morning. #DecemberDecisions #Day15

Today I decided to try and fix the washing machine. And I am hopeful that I might have done it. Not certain about this, as I haven’t tested it on a full wash yet, but am pleased with myself for the attempt. #DecemberDecisions #Day14

Today has been dominated by squeezing out wet clothes, and wiping puddles up from the floor. If I even get the washing machine working again (or get a new one) I will be working out how to clear the filter early on, before it won’t come out. #DecemberDecisions #Day13

Today I had my team Christmas lunch. We were very small, both due to being a small team now, and due to us unfortunately not all being well enough. But we had a lovely time - great food and great company #DecemberDecisions #Day12

My son was asking me to decide which hot water bottle is my favourite, his or his sister’s. Since my daughter and I have a thing where we pretend her hot water bottle is a baby, I obviously couldn’t decide - it not being appropriate to have favourites among children #DecemberDecisions #Day11

This afternoon I deliberately didn’t deal with my emails in order that I could focus and get something done. And I was successful in my endeavour. I would like to manage this more often, but the emails do keep on coming… #DecemberDecisions #Day10

Today, I got to offload lots of stresses to a friend, and feel much better about dealing with (some of)them tomorrow. And we went to an immersive art experience, which was amazing! #DecemberDecisions #Day9

My children and I are rewatching The Good Place. We watched several episodes tonight (towards the end of season 2). It is just so good. Every line is inspired, often with another little bit added that makes it even more brilliant #DecemberDecisions #Day8 (the decisions being re moral philosophy…)

Today I have done a lot of cooking. And I’m still not finished. It’s tiring work. #DecemberDecisions #Day7

Today while at a chess tournament I was sitting near a grand piano. People sat and played it through the day. Some tinkering around, some really accomplished pianists playing beautiful music, often familiar. I need to listen to more piano music. #DecemberDecisions #Day6

Today I’ve been at home (working) all day, & cooking & tv watching in the evening. But I did have a brisk walk in the cold this morning to try & get a lost and found ID to my son before his bus left. This didn’t work unfortunately, but it was good to be out in the fresh air #DecemberDecisions #Day5

This afternoon my daughter sent me a text message apologising ‘I broke the cheese’. This is one of multiple amusing texts I received today. #DecemberDecisions #Day4
