Senate Democrats urge EPA to reinstate 140 employees still on leave The Democrats’ letter comes after EPA employees signed a declaration of dissent, causing EPA leadership to put them on leave and conduct an investigation.

Today, admin leave ends for #EPA employees punished for signing the #DeclarationofDissent, which says current EPA leadership is ‘recklessly undermining’ the agency’s mission.

A two-page letter on U.S. Senate letterhead dated July 30, 2025, addressed to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. The letter, signed by multiple Democratic Senators, expresses deep concern that over 140 EPA employees were placed on administrative leave after signing the “Declaration of Dissent.” It urges Zeldin to restore the employees to active service, citing their First Amendment rights and referencing the Supreme Court’s Pickering decision, which recognized the importance of public employees speaking out on matters of public concern.

EPA Must Reinstate Employees Placed on Leave for Dissent Letter, Says Union US News is a recognized leader in college, grad school, hospital, mutual fund, and car rankings. Track elected officials, research health conditions, and find news you can use in politics, business, health, and education.

First page of a July 8, 2025 letter from the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. Signed by hundreds of EPA staff, the letter accuses Zeldin of undermining the EPA’s mission and abusing his office. It states that Zeldin’s actions have harmed communities, set back science, and damaged the agency’s culture. The letter condemns the retaliatory administrative leave placed on at least 139 signatories of a previous dissent letter and warns that these retaliatory acts may violate the Whistleblower Protection Act.

🔥 Congress just issued a letter to EPA Admin Zeldin demanding an end to what they call “illegal retaliation” against the #EPA139 for signing the #DeclarationofDissent.

These civil servants warned that EPA leadership was endangering public health, abuse of authority, & gross mismanagement.

My LinkedIn post that says: As an #HRProfessional, I’ve shared before that I have so many conflicting emotions about these employee/employer situations playing out in public and/or social media. But I’m also an #American AND the first word in my chosen career starts with the word #human, so these intersections of my identity often overlap. I also - like most sensible business professionals - rely on experts when I don’t know “the thing” - whatever the “thing” is… and well, these EPA employees are some of the experts, right? So when these employees take their boss to task with their concerns (see the link below for the full #DeclarationofDissent) and appear to be being #retaliated against by being placed on administrative leave, AND receive the support of 70 #NobelLaureates, the #HR professional in me pays attention.
