An image of Grogu, a small green, big-eared character from The Mandolorian, wearing a tan robe, standing with hands clasped in front. Behind him is a larger, faded portrait of his face looking upward. The background is red and blue with diagonal neon-style light streaks crossing the image, creating a retro school picture effect.

Some Abiotic Factor fanart I made for my dad’s birthday, since we play the game a lot together.

This was from a month ago, but I thought I’d share it since I forgot to post it. :)

A breathtaking infrared image from the James Webb Space Telescope reveals thousands of galaxies in the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723-73, approximately 4.6 billion light-years away. Distorted arcs of light, caused by gravitational lensing, showcase even more distant galaxies, with some light traveling 9.5 billion years to reach us. Bright, six-pointed stars within our own Milky Way galaxy are also visible. This image, from a 12.5-hour exposure using the NIRCam instrument, offers a glimpse into the early universe.

A computer-simulated image depicting a galaxy cluster. A large elliptical galaxy is at the center, surrounded by numerous smaller galaxies. Distant galaxies appear as arcs due to gravitational lensing from the cluster's dark matter. This simulates the enhanced capabilities of the Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS).

A stunning wide-angle image of the Cat's Paw Nebula (NGC 6334) in Scorpius. This emission nebula, also known as the Bear Claw Nebula, glows red due to ionized hydrogen. Located 5,500 light-years away, it's a stellar nursery where massive stars are born. The image showcases the nebula's intricate structure against a backdrop of countless stars.

#JWST’s first #DeepField image.
The pictorial field of view is an equivalent area of sky to that covered by a grain of sand, balanced on the tip of your finger, held at arm’s length. The numbers of galaxies, each with billions of stars, in just this tiny area of the sky is absolutely mind-boggling.

Hubble Deep Field from 1996 could be argued to have quantifiably changed thinking. There was a concomitant steep and sustained increase in the incidence of "billions of galaxies" and "billions of stars" in the English language from 1996 onward.
