Ken Saro Wiwa Ken Saro-Wiwa (1941-1995) was a Nigerian writer, political activist and environmental campaigner. Saro-Wiwa was well known for the many books he wrote. He became internationally famous for championng the cause of his own people, the Ogonis of the Niger Delta in Nigeria. In their quest for an equitable share of the oil revenue emanating from their land, Saro-Wiwa, together with members of his ethnic group, formed the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP). Saro-Wiwa was executed in 1995 with eight others. The government then alleged that they were responsible for the murders of four prominent Ogoni leaders. Ken Saro-Wiwa's prison notes about his detention were published posthumously.
