Former Kavango West governor Ausiku reflects on development journey
Former Kavango West governor Sirkka Ausiku has described development in the region as “revolutionary”.
She said this at the welcoming event for new regional governor Verna Sinimbo on Friday.
“In 2014, there were no government offices at Nkurenkuru,” Ausiku said.
“Today, Nkurenkuru serves as the region’s administrative hub, hosting a fully operational Kavango West Regional Council and eight functional constituency offices,” she said.
Ausiku said key developments during her tenure include the establishment of the regional coordinating development committee, constituency and village development committees, and the Kavango West Communal Land Board to address land matters.
“The region introduced a programme called ‘Kavango West Going Green’ to address food security at household level and beyond,” she said.
The region also has a functional farmers union and horticulture association, she said.
“Production at our green schemes has improved significantly.”
Ausiku said on the education front, the Kavango West region has performed well in Ordinary and Advanced Subsidiary level examinations.
“The establishment of two institutions of higher learning and the completion of the Nkurenkuru Vocational Training Centre signal progress,” she said.
She appealled to the new governor to continue engaging regional leadership with the central government.
“Development is hindered by inadequate infrastructure, including a lack of feeder roads, water infrastructure, rural electrification, and shortages in education and healthcare facilities,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sinimbo said her commitment to integrity, transparency, and dedication to the region’s people will guide her leadership over the next five years.
“My instructions are to ensure government institutions are all geared and aligned to serve the community of this region without fail,” she said.
“I urge all stakeholders, from government entities to community organisations and residents, to unite under a shared vision,” Sinimbo said.
