PSE&G Announces Summer Relief Program for New Jersey Customers
PSE&G is introducing a new Summer Relief Initiative aimed at assisting New Jersey residential electric customers and preventing disconnections. The company is also petitioning the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to offer financial relief on summer electricity bills.
The Summer Relief Initiative includes a moratorium effective July 1, 2025, extending to September 15, 2025. This moratorium will safeguard low-income and eligible customers from service shut-offs and waive reconnection fees. This action is a direct response to a substantial rise in electric supply prices stemming from a recent PJM capacity price auction.
PSE&G has already filed with the BPU to postpone the impact of the June 1st supply price increase for residential electricity users throughout the summer. According to Kim Hanemann, president and COO, PSE&G, New Jersey requires increased power generation to address the projected energy supply and demand gap. While PSE&G isn't responsible for the 17% increase in electric rates, the company is proactively working to support customers and advance crucial solutions. The initiative aims to ease the financial strain on families and communities during peak electricity usage. Customers facing payment difficulties are urged to contact PSE&G to explore available assistance options. PSE&G will continue to cover the full cost of electricity generation to suppliers during the deferral period. Notably, adjusted for inflation, combined electric and gas bills are currently comparable to levels seen in 2008.
