I can feel my love affair with 1940s/50s TV dying out somewhat as I've run out of a lot of the live TV and bar #Dragnet I'm not getting my fix from pre-filmed US TV. Simply because live TV is electric to experience but pre-recorded TV feels like lazily made cinema.

I saw her in #TalesOfTomorrow TV eps #2.26 "Another Chance" (13-Feb-53) & #2.12 "The Lost Planet" (07-Nov-52). The latter I previously declared the best TV episode of the 1950s.

This is Richard Diamond's version of "The Caves of Androzani". This ep is so good I thought it was #Dragnet as the box starts to close around the hero and the villain. You can see Janssen is too good for this.

I liked how different this was but it lacked any edge. Maybe its because the family nature of the story yet it had no emotional core.

#Dragnet Novel #2 (1957).
With the crime genre now out of fashion on TV the genre giants enter hibernation. Yet Dragnet continues on TV unabated like a bird who never flew sound for Winter.
This book aimed at younger readers novelises 10 eps by the looks of it.
Dragnet is one hell of a bird.

Well it is the end of the good old days as "Dragnet" didn't make the top 30.
The Western genre has now taken over TV drama completely. So all those famous cops, the private dicks, the amateur detectives, the G-men are all gone.
For now.
#Dragnet Season 6 ended 23-May-57 and Season 7 started 26-Sep-57. After Season 6 there have been 198 TV eps.
"Dragnet" still air 8.30pm on NBC. It's up against.

Ah it seems that the new LAPD HQ in the Police Administration Building (PAB) and later renamed Parker Center is actually right beside City Hall!
I got a bit choked up at the end scene. It was done well on radio but again Webb somehow managed to make it hit harder on TV.

Do I recommend?
Yes. Fabulous live TV of the era. S5's eps were disappointing but S1-S4 were all highly entertaining live TV. A pity none of the 177 Radio eps exist.
#Dragnet So how does S6 perform over 1956/57?
Still a top show. But it's now the fourth place in straight drama shows having been the number one for five years on TV.
A new sheriff has arrived in town in #Gunsmoke. That genre will soon take over the airwaves from the noir shows.
#Dragnet And that is that for S5 where just 9 of 39 exist. 4 months later S6 starts.
"Dragnet" airs Thursday at 8.30pm on NBC
So on 1956/57 TV it's up against:
CBS: Climax (which is now in colour!).
