Fit in a quick jaunt to Hayward Regional Shoreline since I was down the street for something else. Did some birdwatching and well watching π.
The well network is for monitoring for migration of contaminants from the old West Winton Landfill (behind me) toward the bay.

Did a quick birding stop at McNabney Marsh in Waterbird Regional Preserve, also in Martinez.
The land was set aside in part using restoration funds after a 1988 oil spill inundated wetlands here & nearby.

It was a good park day, visited 4 all in all. Radke Martinez Regional Shoreline was 1000 shades of grey. Thought I'd gotten lucky with the weather, but got drenched at the end. π§οΈ

Did a quick sunset walk in foggy Tilden Regional Park, and then got to hang out for a few hours looking at moths.

I saw so many bikes on the #SFBayTrail! Folks were biking to the Richmond fireworks.
π² Kids on their own bikes,
π² kids on longtails,
π² kids in backfiet-style cargo bike buckets (what are those called?).
πΆ And then this bike party came rolling through.
Everyone on bikes looked so happy! π

I donβt looking across exposed tidal mudflats toward the East Bay Hills. Ridges and troughs in the flats run roughly east west, parallel to the water flow in this area.

Went out on a ranger program at Hayward Regional Shoreline #EBRPD today along SF Bay. Great weather. Lots of terns. Saw a juvenile black-necked stilt.
Was of course mesmerized by the patterns and shapes in the mudflats, as always. Can anyone recommend good background reading on mudflat morphology?

Spent most of yesterday at #EBRPD Coyote Hills Regional Park. Their Juneteenth ranger program focused on Outdoor Afroβs recommended theme of βFreedom to Access Waterβ; they had participants read biographical cards about some current Black environmental scientists & community activists in the US.

Went to Antioch/Oakley Regional Shoreline for my first time, too. Havenβt been feeling as inspired by my personal challenge to (again) see how many #EBRPD parks I can visit in a year, but it was fun to go somewhere totally new to me. It is tiny but was very busy with picnics and fishing!

Went out to Big Break Regional Shoreline. Sunny, blue skies, great views out toward the San Joaquin River. About a dozen great blue herons and some caspian terns at the pier, which was fun. Passed a dozen turtles, I think the most Iβve ever seen at once π’. #EBRPD
