Sondaggio Euromedia Research: e-cig valida per smettere di fumare Roma, 30 mag. (askanews) - La sigaretta elettronica si conferma un valido strumento per smettere di fumare e limitare i danni da fumo. È quanto emerge da una nuova ricerca condotta da Euromedia Research con il supporto di ANAFE Confindustria, presentata a Roma in occasione del "World No Tobacco Day 2025". Abbiamo parlato con Umberto Roccatti, Presidente ANAFE Confindustria: "Questa ricerca dà un dato fondamentale, il 4,7% degli italiani ha smesso di fumare grazie alla sigaretta elettronica e questo è un risultato storico visto anche un po' il fallimento delle politiche sanitarie degli ultimi 20 anni. Il dato a supporto è che il 92% degli utilizzatori della sigaretta elettronica, quindi la quasi totalità, in precedenza erano fumatori quindi non esiste un rischio sostanziale di ingaggio dei non fumatori verso il prodotto. L'ultimo dato, secondo noi sostanziale, è quello del ruolo degli aromi. Il 72% degli adulti che utilizzano la sigaretta elettronica utilizzano aromi diversi dal tabacco in questo mondo si va a solidificare il distacco dal tabacco combusto quindi gli aromi svolgono un ruolo essenziale nel processo di disossufazione e eliminazione del fumo combusto nella popolazione italiana". Una tavola rotonda che ha visto incontrare il parere e le opinioni di esperti dal mondo della politica e della salute. Con un particolare sguardo alla prevenzione ed i benefici della sigaretta elettronica. È poi intervenuto il Prof. Giacomo Mangiaracina, medico chirurgo e docente di Salute pubblica all'Università Sapienza di Roma: "Un incontro positivo, quindi c'è stata una concordanza di vedute sul problema ma soprattutto non si è voluto sparare nel mucchio, abbiamo fornito dati concreti e i dati concreti dicono che utilizzare i prodotti alternativi al tabacco riducono il danno e aiutano a smettere di fumare. Poi è arrivata la sigaretta elettronica e avevamo uno strumento in più, cosa che gli altri hanno voluto negare uno strumento in più per soggetti con frequenti ricadute, soggetti che avevano difficoltà a smettere o non volevano semplicemente smettere, avevamo qualcosa da consigliare anche a questi fumatori in trattamento per cui l'abbiamo accolto benevolmente, ovviamente però se ci spostiamo sul campo della prevenzione lì il problema è acuto". La ricerca ha evidenziato come permanga una significativa disinformazione tra gli italiani: solo un terzo della popolazione si dichiara effettivamente informato sui diversi prodotti alternativi al fumo presenti sul mercato.

Nicotine Dosimetry in Evaluating Electronic Cigarettes Compared to Cigarette Smoking: Implications for Tobacco Regulatory Science The delivery and systemic absorption of nicotine are important for assessing the potential safety and efficacy of novel inhaled nicotine delivery devices. We describe an experimental approach for examining systemic nicotine intake, looking at individual variability, comparing JUUL electronic cigarettes and cigarette smoking, and comparing standardized puffing and ad libitum use. Fourteen cigarette smokers who were infrequent e-cigarette users vaped JUUL or smoked cigarettes, both in a standardized session (ten 3.5 s puffs over 5 min) and in a 4 h ad libitum use session. Plasma nicotine concentrations were measured, and using sex and body weight-based population nicotine clearance predictions, systemic nicotine dose was estimated in each session. The pharmacokinetically (PK)-estimated nicotine dose in the standardized session averaged 0.55 mg (range 0.16–0.82) for JUUL and 1.15 mg (range 0.35–4.56) for cigarette smoking. The PK-estimated dose with ad libitum use averaged 4.1 mg (range 0.4–9.5) for JUUL and 5.0 mg (range 1.5–15) for smoking (average 3.4 cigarettes). Within individual correlations, comparing PK-estimated dose for JUUL use with standardized vs ad libitum session was weak (r = 0.45, NS) but was much stronger for cigarette smoking (r = 0.82, p < 0.001). Data from ad libitum use predicted that consumption of the liquid contained in a JUUL pod would correspond to smoking 15 cigarettes, which is similar to that observed in real world studies. We conclude that standardized vaping sessions do not predict usual nicotine self-administration behavior with ad libitum use. With ad libitum use, nicotine intake is much more similar to vaping and smoking and provides a much better predictor of product delivery in the real world. This approach is recommended for screening of novel inhaled nicotine devices and to aid FDA regulatory decision making.
