But before P.P....the best music chat with Joe Boyd at the Book Festival #EIBF
Essentially, Quinn sets out to debunk the myth that the West, or any civilisation exists on its own merits, and that history is a story of connections and interactions. That's nothing new, but her book is apparently crammed full of detail & anecdotes.

Two youngish men sit on stage talking about books, in front of a very full audience. The background is lilac, a logo for the Edinburgh International Book Festival is off to one side. The conversation looks intense.
Full house, unsurprisingly, for Laurent Binet interviewed by Chris Power at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, which is a bit of an ultimate buy one get two...

Great event yesterday at the #EIBF: Should Rivers Be Afforded Personhood: www.edbookfest.co.uk/the-festival.... And also quite sobering to come home in the evening to the news that Arthur's Seat was ablaze.
Fiction for a Fractured World: Kunzru talking about his latest, Blue Ruin, joined by Natasha Brown, talking about her 2nd novel, Universality. Both have 90s influences, COVID experiences, elements of race and class. They talk about the nature of fiction, thinning reality. #EIBF #edinburgh #postcard
Outside the grounds of the EIBF continue to be buzzing. I find a seat, having enough time to eat the empire biscuit before heading back in, hearing to the same room for the third and last time of the day. This time for Kitamura's other half, novelist Hari Kunzru who I've seen before

When I get to where Barker is sat behind the table, I watch folk get books signed that I have at home. I chat with her about the last time she'd been at the EIBF, naming the book she'd been promoting, but she's already said she has a poor memory. #EIBF #edinburgh #postcard
Afterwards I buy the new books by both, despite my intent to resist. D is back, working the signing queue. Zink follows in their steps, signing on the fly. She refuses to sit behind the table (beside her! (all banter?)). She's trouble Barker had said earlier. #EIBF #edinburgh #postcard
Same room as before, this time with Nicola Barker and Nell Zink, hosted by Camilla Grudova. I've seen Barker before, read a number of her books. I'm aware of Zink, but never encountered. The pair bounce off each other, the room howling with delight. What a great session. #EIBF #edinburgh #postcard

At Edinburgh book festival #eibf about to see Louise Welsh and her bioregional work on the Clyde having a unique identity: see her podcast Who owns the Clyde?
Out of 1st event, Katie Kitamura talking about her new novel Audition. Now her 3rd novel with an unnamed female protagonist. Moving from Intimacy's translator to an actress. Conversation about language, about plotlessness, about playing form. She did a reading of a devastating section. #EIBF
