A great conference day at the #esa2019 comes to an end. Chaired 3 sessions on formal and informal caregiving together with Mareike Ariaans. It was a pleasure to listen the presenters who gave us valuable insights. 1/5

So long Louisville and #ESA2019- thanks for a great week. In keeping with the spirit of this sign, @AmyZanne and I are optimistic that 4day meetings and 15min talks will make future meetings even better!

everyone interested in #emissions reductions should have a serious look at the work of @QUEST_RCN and the team of @RuthYanai. Here Ruth at #ESA2019 showing a clear message. https://x.com/QUEST_RCN/status/1161833411897692166

I'll be sharing my PhD student Ben Seliger's at 3:40 pm in M112 (it's actually labeled "conference theater"). Are North American trees in equilibrium with climate today? Have they been in the last 21,000 years? What does this mean in a warming world? Find out! #ESA2019

Fellow scientists: what’s your favorite, least-cited paper that you wish more people would read? Post a link in your reply, with a comment about why you think it’s important. #ESA2019

@LizzWaring was inspired to become botanist by Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park: “botanists save the other scientists from getting killed.” #ESA2019

How do you feel about a $60 abstract fee (posters are free; fees will support recordings for talks for remote participation) for future @ESA_org meetings? Is your section talking about it during your business meetings this week? #ESA2019

#ESA2019 Improv skills have been some of the most useful tools for improving my science communication (do "improv and improve" have the same roots? They must!). Come join @drsrbayer and me at 11:30 am TODAY in M111 to give it a try. No experience necessary. Bring a lunch!

Things I’m excited to see at #ESA2019: so many professional development/services sessions (e.g., legal counsel, bystander training), pronoun stickers, language buttons, early career mentoring, career center. What about you? What would you like to see?

#ESA2019 food pro-tips: 1) the cafe in the Galt House Hotel has eggs/ham/cheese flatbread sandwiches that are basically two complete sandwiches for $6.50. 2) Addis (Ethiopian), a minute’s walk, has lots of vegan options!

Steve Jackson: The last 60,000 years show plant communities in the southeast US were sensitive to climate—evidence of abrupt change and high turnover. They also accommodated a lot of northern plants during glacial conditions. Yet endemism is high, suggesting resilience. #ESA2019

Stuart Pimm: The US is not protecting its biodiversity well; most is in the American southeast, but most protected areas are in the west and northeast. Cold/dry places, and places with $. Poor people live where the most species are: Appalachia, the sourtheast. #ESA2019

If you’re missing @sherrymarts’ bystander intervention training workshop, there’s a second session on Tuesday. It’s great! #ESA2019

Just once, I’d love to be in a workshop about bystander intervention, harassment, or improving gender diversity where the audience isn’t a majority women. I guess I need to start bringing men with me? #ESA2019

Hi #ESA2019 friends! Sorry I can’t make it to this year’s meeting, but let me know if your department or agency needs some #SciComm public science engagement training, or if you’re looking for seminar speakers!
