I would love it if #NigelFarage faced the same media scrutiny that Starmer (righty) faces. He didn’t before the #EUref, he has not been shown it since and our media will not do so before #GE2029. Get used to it. He will be our next PM.
Since before the 2016 #EURef, it's been clear that an decision to leave the EU would cause big issues for Gibraltar, given its deep integration into the regional economy, which depends on free movement across the border

Thought I was 1st person to coin this term, but no!
I'd also add that there was widespread cowardice on #EU membership from #Labour long before #EUref. EU Liberal group leader Verhofstadt used to call them "Eurotimid" back in 2012-14.
Should this happen, will be interesting to see if there are any domestic policy changes. Recall in 2014 Cameron, Hague, & Osborne made the foolish commitment on #EURef after getting hammered at local & Euro elections that year. 👀

As Labour leader Corbyn's #EUref campaining was so effective that a significant minority didn't know he was in favour of Remain...
40% would be more than enough to make it reasonable to hold a referendum on any subject.
The #EUref, for example, went ahead even though Leave were behind in the polls.
Don't accept special rules designed to subvert democracy.
The only requirement for an independence referendum should be that the Scottish parliament votes in favour.
No arbitrary polling rules which are plainly designed to block another referendum. That's not democracy.
Oddly, the #EUref went ahead when Leave were behind in the polls.
The idea that a referendum must be won in the polls before it can be held is not democratic. It ignores the effect a good campaign can have to win people over.
There was no such requirement for the #EUref
OK in that case a demonically stupid campaign but principle stands.

I hold spam face himself to blame for much of it. Kow-towing to #Farage and the then #UKIP and holding #EURef in response to him.
Which *checks notes* was an advisory referendum!
We attended a “debate,” organised at the Canterbury Cathedral conference centre, which he chaired, “ independently.” It was in 2016, during #EURef campaign.
He was still an academic @unikent.bsky.social then.
Let’s just say that whilst not blatantly biased, his summing up left a lot to be desired.

One obvious argument: the UK did not actually vote for Brexit.
#EUref has been widely misunderstood. This was a multiple choice not a binary vote. There's a psephological term for conflating votes for multiple options as if they were a single bloc: cheating. >
