Bush Impact on Schools to Outlive Term NCLB is Bush’s top domestic legacy. The president pressed for the school accountability law from the beginning.

My Take: Bush 43's No Child Left Behind had some good pillars in it. It wasn't a bad plan. It did some good things. Specifically with respect to Standards and Assessments.

My Take: We forget that a big Charter School push was a priority under Clinton. Technology also was a huge initiative under him with E-rates. And AmeriCorps introduced many new teachers to the profession. I taught with a lot of AmeriCorps teachers.

George H.W. Bush, the 'Education President,' Dies at 94 The 41st president of the U.S., he spearheaded a historic 1989 summit meeting that helped propel the standards-based education movement.

My Take: Bush 41 is rightly called The Education President. Quietly a lot of what he started became pillars of his predecessors. Clinton and Charter Schools, Bush 41 and National Standards, Obama with ADA and other key initiatives.

My Take: It's amazing that we seem to be repeating a lot of the same playbook from 40 years ago, even the school lunch fights. Republicans see Education as a Culture war trope and a way to pay for their tax cuts.

Jimmy Carter's Education Legacy Stretched From the School Board to the White House The 39th president helped create the U.S. Department of Education. He had also been a school board member and an education-minded governor.

My Take: He launched the Department of Education. That was a game changer. It's amazing to witness the red states who benefit the most from it, now bastardize it. Here are some other Carter Administration Education achievements.
