Super excited!
HDWTT = How do we teach that

And yes… the diorama of a classroom with lily pads on the floor to demo 'nimble number jumpers' was totally unnecessary but absolutely worth it 🪷➕➖

What do you really know about memory? I was sat in a CPD session on Cognitive Load Theory not so long ago and several things seemed to strike me all at once:

"The majority of teachers I speak with think of memory as a linear process: stuff goes into the working memory and some of it may end up in long-term memory, if we do it right.

But the truth, as always, is far more complicated."

Fascinating discussion post from @didau.bsky.social here. Not least the idea that developing free will, or at least the illusion of it, may be a core purpose of education.

Evidence-based educational movements are actually games Around 2012ish, a new movement rode into the UK (school) educational scene. It came with the banner of "evidence-based", to counter the previous movement. I'm not writing to contend whether the movem...

Maybe the biggest problem of the modern education debate is the epistemology that somehow, through reading research articles, someone can access the "truth" of reality.

Truth is the creation of liars. #UKEd #EduSky #EduBlogUK

Recall is not 'lower order thinking'. It is foundational.

Decoupling lower & upper secondary curricula This is because a principal end-goal of KS4 is a grade. But in KS3, the principal goal should be an invitation into the reality constructed by a subject's members.

A common assumption is that reading is easy to teach. If that is so, why do 20% arrive at secondary school reading well behind their age?

Particularly proud of this aspect of our Ofsted inspection report: ‘The school has considerably strengthened its support for pupils who are learning to read. Pupils who need additional help, including with phonics, receive this regularly. This is enabling pupils, including those who speak English as an additional language, to catch up.’

This week we saw several more students graduating from our intervention program having made several years’ worth of reading gains in a matter of months - sometimes even weeks.

Reading is the key to our providing properly inclusive education. Working with ‘Thinking Reading’ has been so transformative for those who need the most support. James Murphy Funda Shibli Hélène Galdin-O'Shea

It's this kind of impact that all the work has been for. There is so much that can be done and we are privileged to help schools to do it.
