As we get closer to the end of the year, I've been thinking about the conversations I've had with engineering managers over the past few months.

Working in a team can be challenging, and leading a team is often even more difficult. As a leader, you find yourself both part of the team and outside of it at the same time.

I am here to help. Drop me a message if you would like to discuss how we can work together.

Have you read 'What Got You Here Won't Get You There' by Marshall Goldsmith? I really enjoyed reading this book many years ago and it articulates a concept I often discuss.

What would happen to your team's performance if you took a month off tomorrow - and does that answer scare you?

If you're honest with yourself, you probably know the answer already. Your stomach might have dropped a little just reading that question.

I did a pen and paper exercise when unhappy at work. Started noticing team dynamics beyond tech. Got asked to coach "agile" teams (just Kanban boards). Found leaders promoted for tech skills but lost in performance reviews.
That's what got me into coaching new tech leaders.

Nobody’s Perfect Allowing ourselves the space to make mistakes and try again

I enjoyed reading this brilliant piece by Nedra Glover Tawwab about perfectionism. I could see myself in her examples, especially what she says about writing.
