Today my work machine graduated from Windows 11 to Ubuntu 24.04. The hardware hasn’t changed. I would have preferred Kubuntu. They gave me ext4 instead of btrfs. But my wishes there are nice-to-haves. What they gave me is a huge step!

Linux File Systems for Windows | Paragon Software Plug hard disk with ExtFS/Btrfs/XFS partitions and work with media on Windows.

I use and recommend this ext4 driver for Windows 11 (not free, and I am not a paid advertiser, just a satisfied user). I have not tested all of them out there. I love this, because "it just works" on my dual-boot Ubuntu 24.04. #Linux #Ext4 #Windows #Ubuntu www.paragon-software.com/home/linuxfs...

If I could have a single day where a disk or file system issue doesn’t plague my life that would be great. This in particular is a dirty journal for an external drive using ext4 on Linux Mint. Machine is an iMac18,3.

Linux 6.17 With EXT4 Showing Some Nice Performance Improvements With the Linux 6.17 kernel there are some block allocation scalability improvements for EXT4 on top of other file-system enhancements with this new kernel and other new features. Linux 6.17 performance has been looking good and when drilling down to the EXT4 file-system performance, it's looking extremely good. Thanks to Huawei’s Baokun Li, block allocation code now scales much better — great news for multi-core, container-heavy systems. Benchmarks show big gains in fallocate ops & reduced file fragmentation (with a small trade-off in free space).
