There are only three small screws holding the top of the dryer in place. Once they’re removed, the top simply slides back, and can then be lifted up and off the dryer. Two more screws hold the metal bracket in place - you can leave it alone if you want to (and / or have tiny hands that can work in tight spaces) but I found it was much easier to loosen it and give me more room to work at removing the control box. It’s held in place by two screws, one of which is down along the side, which is another good reason to loosen the mounting plate to give you easier access. If you drop that screw (it’s very small, and you probably will) it’s going to fall down past the drum and you’ll have to dismantle the entire dryer to get it back.

Once the control box was removed and the board carefully extracted (both actually very easy to do) the tell-tale blast mark was readily noticeable on the bottom of the casing.

Here’s the failure point - sort of… The actual failure is inside the relay where over the last 17 years the contacts of the relay have oxidized to the point where they finally caused so high of a current draw that it fried the incoming power connection to the relay. At least I won’t have any problems desoldering THIS pin! 😅

The relay needed: G8P-1A4P-ACD 30A, 250Vac
This specific relay is obsolete and no longer made - but there are many clones of it that are inexpensive and readily available.

Well fftttt… A couple days ago the dryer quit working, but no one bothered to TELL ME about it. I found out when my son brought over some laundry to do, and discovered the dryer throwing an F01 error code. Fortunately it’s a pretty easy fix, especially for a retired EET.
