Jane is visibly startled as Hilda loudly says, "Hi, there!" with a mischievous expression. Panel 3 shows chibi versions of Jane and Hilda. Jane is sweating as Hilda asks "Who's the flower crown for?" with a smirk on her face. Panel 4 shows a chibi version of Jane. She is blushing as little golden sparkles and hearts dance around her. A transparent, dreamy image of Hubert appears behind her as she goes quiet "...". Panel 5 shows chibi versions of Jane and Hilda. Jane is looking a little irritated and refusing eye contact as she replies, "He goes to another Officer's Academy" flatly. Hilda continues to look at Jane with a sly expression.

A Three Houses style portrait for a friend. He has dark hair, tan skin, brown eyes, a dark beard, and wears glasses. He is dressed in a white Officer's Academy uniform shirt and a black uniform vest with gold buttons. I heavily relied on Claude's post time skip design for this piece, mostly for the face shape and the eye placement (two things I tend to screw up). When learning new styles, I will trace the parts that give me the most problems and freehand the rest. Then, once I've pinned down the shapes and proportions, the training wheels come off and I can draw straight from my mind from there. Anime has always given me issues because I am used to adding a super wide range of diversity in my characters' face shapes. Anime tends to tone that way down and have very similar faces for their characters, letting the hair and eyes be the distinguishing features. It's a perfectly fine stylistic choice and I'm enjoying learning about how to rein in my more extreme facial features. Learning new styles is a process with a steep learning curve. Tracing some things until you understand how it works helps train your eyes, but it shouldn't be crutch. You should move away from it once you understand the proportions. You can still use a reference, though, and mapping/tracing poses isn't a big deal when you understand anatomy. (Comic book artists map and trace poses to save time). Don't be afraid to trace while learning. I've learned a lot and I'm excited to really master this and see what I can do from there.

I heavily relied on Claude's post time skip portrait for this, just being real. I'm trying to train my eyes/hand by tracing some elements but freehanding others & then comparing my work to the original.

He has a scar on his forehead that he hides under his hair, usually. It's a possible headcanon I'm working with. I also headcanon that he can't see well out of his right eye. I don't know... Another attempt at my OC in the FE3 style. It's set up like a character portrait. She is fair skinned with dark brown hair, red eyes, and has a scar over her right eye. She is wearing a black and silver uniform that kind of resembles an old military uniform or a Marching Band uniform. The fabric is black but the bars across her chest and the epaulettes are silver. She appears to look completely checked out. She was late to class on the first day because she didn't want to come. She gets her classmates names wrong, even though Ferdinand says his name out loud constantly. No one can tell if she really can't remember or if she's just being a smart ass. She sits between Linhardt and Hubert at the front of the class, which is just a fantastic place to be when you had rather gargle broken glass than attend classes. She is fully planning to draw on Linhardt's face the next time he falls asleep in class. She and Hubert regularly have staring contests. The last time they did, a fly landed on her eyeball and she didn't blink. Hubert can't tell if this is disconcerting or if he finds it hot. Hubert is complicated. He doesn't know it, but her opinion of him is "would". How does Byleth feel about all of this? They're a mercenary with no teaching credentials who's barely older than most of their students, and who was literally hired by a church they've never heard of a week ago to teach a class at an academy that serves to keep rich and Noble students alive in battle. They have other things going on. If the two classroom sleep paralysis demons in the front row want to stare at each other all day, it's the least of their concerns.
