Nothing romantic. An angry sixty-something woman with her annoyingly optimistic, twenty-something therapist. They're oil and water in the beginning, but find common ground in spite of their different ages and wealth (or lack thereof!). Like the show Hacks but focused on mental health.

I usually have a drink nearby the computer. More recently it's been coffee or tea because it's cold outside. If I listen to music, it's instrumental background music. I don't snack while I'm drafting.

How do you set the writing mood?
When starting my SF novel Cargo, I avoided worldbuilding beyond the idea that there were multiple spacefaring species. Instead, I started with the question, "what if chronic fatigue was the norm, and what would it be like to meet someone with 'average' human strength and endurance?" (1/3) #FiFRevPit
I start somewhere between aesthetics and science. How does the cool stuff I imagine my fantasy characters doing actually happen? What about the core of the universe is different that allows it? I have a B.S. in Ceramic Eng, so materials science will always be a part of my world. #FiFRevPit
Sometimes panoramically but, for the most part, I begin with character and environment—weaving them kinetically to suggest a larger world.
