Boston Marathon: Cheryl Wermer fundraising for FamilyAid I’m excited to announce that I’ll be running the 2025 Boston Marathon to raise money for FamilyAid.  FamilyAid is a local organization that provides solutions to family homelessness in Greater Boston, empowering parents and caregivers to secure and sustain housing and build strong foundations for their children’s futures.FamilyAid does a lot of work in Boston and neighboring cities to combat homelessness.  Every donation made goes towards:- Education and training through parenting groups, financial literacy classes, and serving as a teaching site for undergraduate and graduate students- Homelessness prevention through emergency financial assistance- Whole family services through securing childcare, health insurance, employment training, and enrichment programs- Over 150 temporary housing units for families to have a safe place to stay- Homelessness diversion programs through alternative housing resources- Stable housing supports to create bridges from temporary to permanent housing- Family-to-Family Project for a network of families to extend a helping hand- Housing services to families enrolled with Boston Public Schools, Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center, and Boston Housing AuthorityFamilyAid recently partnered with the city I live in - Newton - to set up a Family Navigation Center to help parents and children get back on their feet, stabilize their lives, and secure permanent housing. As a social worker, the work that I’ve always done has been to help children and families be stable and successful. I’m proud to assist FamilyAid in their efforts to help families. Running for FamilyAid Boston: Every Step Counts! I’m excited to embark on this journey to support FamilyAid Boston by running as part of their marathon team for the 129th Boston Marathon! FamilyAid Boston is an incredible organization that provides essential services and resources to families experiencing homelessness in the Boston community. Their mission is to "empower parents and caregivers facing homelessness to secure and sustain housing while building strong foundations for their children’s futures." Their vision is to "prevent family homelessness whenever possible, or reduce its harm if it can’t be avoided, through education and support for children and parents that foster their long-term stability."By fundraising for FamilyAid and participating in the Boston Marathon, I hope to amplify their mission and contribute to a brighter future for families facing homelessness. This opportunity is a powerful way to channel my passion for helping children and families.As a foster family since 2019, my parents, sister, and I have welcomed three children into our home. One of those children stayed with us long-term for 2.5 years, while two others came for short-term placements of about 10 days each. Through these experiences, I’ve seen firsthand how stability, love, and support can transform a child’s life, especially in their early years. I’ve also witnessed the harsh reality of how children in unstable environments often lack access to the early childhood education and support they need to thrive.Recently, we had the privilege of caring for a 3-month-old baby boy, who had just come from a shelter. Watching him grow and develop over these few weeks has been life-changing for me. It’s given me a deeper understanding of how a child’s earliest experiences shape their future. It has also fueled my desire to support organizations like FamilyAid Boston, which work directly with families in similar situations.I am running this marathon for those children and families, to help ensure they have the resources and support they need to build a stable, bright future. Your support will make a real difference; together, we can create lasting change for families in our community.Thank you for joining me on this journey! Support Conor in his Journey to Lift Families out of Poverty Hello! My name is Conor and I'm thrilled to announce my fundraising journey for FamilyAid Boston, an official charity of the Boston Marathon. This incredible organization works tirelessly to support families experiencing homelessness, helping them regain stability and thrive. I believe with every fiber of my being that every family deserves a safe place to call home. As I prepare to run, my goal is to raise awareness and funds to aid this vital cause.I'm also running to honor the legacy of cherished running companion and fellow Boston River Rat, Jim Partridge, who devoted himself completely to FamilyAid's mission. Despite being diagnosed with cancer in 2016, Jim tirelessly continued the work of the organization for years, helping others to run the Boston Marathon even when he no longer could. Jim showed us with his words, actions, and indomitable spirit what it means to persevere in the face of great adversity, and I can't imagine a cause that greater exemplifies the lessons he taught us.Homelessness in the United States reached record highs in 2024, which saw an especially sharp increase in the number of families affected. FamilyAid works directly with these vulnerable communities to lift them out of poverty by providing them with essential resources, housing assistance, and educational programs.I am proud to be a member of FamilyAid's 2025 Boston Marathon team to run and raise funds as a tribute to Jim's incredible life. I appreciate your support and look forward to sharing updates with you on this journey!
