A pamphlet issued, in what would be the last weeks of peace, during April 1939 and giving details of cheap monthly return tickets from Aberdeen and 'principal' stations on the old Great North of Scotland Railway Section of their system. The GNSR had been one of the many railways amalgamated to form the London & North Eastern Railway in the "Grouping" of 1923. As can be seen from the specimen page the 'principal' stations included Fraserburgh, Grantown-on-Spey, Huntly, Insch, Keith, Keith Town, Macduff, Peterhead, Portsoy, Rothes, Stonehaven, Turriff, Aberdenn, Aberlour, Aboyne, Alford, Ballater, Banchory, Banff, Banff Bridge, Buckie, Craigellachie, Cullen, Dufftown and Elgin. These names run across the top of the table. Down the side are in alphabetical order a long list of destination stations from Aberdeen to York with many destinations in Scotland, Northern and Eastern England an a smattering of South Wales, the South Coast and West of England towns and cities. The fares quoted across the table are in pinds,s hillings and pence and are third class returns. First Class was also avaolable at 50% extra. Many of these stations would vanish off the map in the later retrenchment of the railways in the 1960s. Fares are shown to a wide range of towns and cities across Scotland and England and gave you return travel facilities within a month of issue.
