Falling in love?

It's absolutely human to fall, be, and continue in love with 'thing', 'thought', and 'the someone'.

You get hurt, humiliated, and then become humbled through those experiences.

Fall, rise, and tread in love ❤️

You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it. ― (Maya Angelou)

As February unfolds, let’s focus on resilience—not just enduring but evolving.

What’s one setback that ultimately helped you grow?

It’s my my final day of #FebruaryThoughts #Day29 (look out for a new, but basically the same, theme tomorrow!). Today has to be about my excitement at it being #hashtag day. I so hope that the fact that we now have hashtags cements BlueSky as the social media platform of choice for more people.

Have just downloaded the update. It’s so exciting to see all the hashtags I’ve been using over the months appear as hyperlinks #daysofhappiness #JanuaryJoys #FebruaryThoughts #LISconference #ORL #LibrariesRewired23 (and more on an occasional basis).

I went to the theatre today, to see The King & I. When my friend asked when I last saw the film, I realised I never have. & while I have seen an amateur production, I’ve forgotten it. So the ending was kind of unexpected. Great performance, & it ended in a standing ovation! #FebruaryThoughts #Day28

I was too tired last night to do my #FebruaryThoughts #Day27 My thought is how good it feels to have developed my thinking & content on Generative AI. There is such a need for more guidance on this topic-I think so many people are using it without thinking about how, or recording what they’re doing

Today my daughter showed me a PowerPoint her and her friends had been working on for school, about a topic I do know something about. We were able to chat about it so she could make the text more personal. This was fun. And it turns out the whole presentation is voluntary! #FebruaryThoughts #Day26

Today I’ve made good progress reading the PRISMA-S article (systematic review reporting guidelines extension re searching). Pleased most of this is on my radar, but I have learnt from it too. #FebruaryThoughts #Day25 (I have done lots of non-research stuff too, but thought I was due an SR post!)

Today I learnt that ukuleles are different from (all?) other stringed instruments in that the outside strings are higher & the inner strings are lower-this came as a shock! Once I got over this I was impressed at how much easier it is to use a new ukulele than my old violin #FebruaryThoughts #Day24

I did half a day’s work today and still managed to get most of my Friday housework jobs done (ignoring one still to do over the weekend, and the dishwasher to load now!). Am treating this as a success #FebruaryThoughts #Day23

Today I had several hours of meetingless work time & managed to get something important-on my mind for ages-done. Remembering that the thing making me feel not so good at my job at times is that there’re some tasks that need focused time to work out what to do, which is rare

My children and I are currently watching The Good Place (a rewatch for me). Every single episode is brilliant. We watched rather a lot of them this evening. I love being educated (a little bit anyway) through comedy. #FebruaryThoughts #Day21

On my way home today I went round the charity shops in town (four of them) and got two tops and two cardigans - quite a find as sometimes I don’t find anything I want. Labels cut off and clothes ready to wash for wearing soon. What a treat! (I also bought a jigsaw puzzle…) #FebruaryThoughts #Day20

I was feeling pretty tired and fed up for a while earlier today. Then had a writing meeting with colleagues getting productive work done, and a couple of 1-1s with students, and I felt so much better #FebruaryThoughts #Day19

I went to take the washing in at dusk this evening (not quite dry, but getting there) and it was one of those perfect moments - not too cold, birds singing, and I was feeling good having been for a run (my third in a week - I’m getting back into it) and had a shower #FebruaryThoughts #Day18

I forgot my #FebruaryThoughts #Day17 yesterday! Or I couldn’t identify something earlier in the evening & meant to come back to it. A book I’ve been reading is by a new (to me) author, Meru by S.B. Divya. & it’s brilliant in so many ways. I get focused on my favourite authors & it’s good to expand.

I got news today that my warranty claim for a replacement blender har has been accepted - a relief, as I’d only had the previous one for 15 months. Looking forward to being able to make juice in the mornings again, & wishing I’d gotten around to filling in the form earlier! #FebruaryThoughts #Day16

Forgot to do my #FebruaryThoughts #Day15 yesterday until I’d gone up to bed. The thought is that I actually went up to bed at a vaguely reasonable time, and didn’t turn my laptop on after getting back from chess club. It’s always so tempting to stay up!

I met up for coffee with a work friend today. We bought our coffees but didn’t stay in the coffee shop, and instead went and sat on some amazing bean bags (there is more context to this). So comfortable and relaxing. I must do this more often! #FebruaryThoughts #Day14

My daughter came into work with me today - for the first time ever! We both had a great time. I found it a bit surreal though, the overlap between my (pretty much the same to be honest) home and work personas. We’re co-writing a blog post about the experience. #FebruaryThoughts #Day13

Late #FebruaryThoughts from me (not the 1st!). I went straight from the #ORL post event drinks to hanging around while my son played in a chess match. Lovely to chat with people at both occasions. A glass of wine at each, with water in between, & a sneaky portion of chips to keep me going! #Day12

I forgot to do my #FebruaryThoughts #Day11 yesterday a rectifying: I make a yummy meal with wholemeal giant couscous. Tesco and Sainsbury’s no longer sell this unfortunately, so I had a long while not being able to make it. Very please I found big bags of it in M&S so I’ve been able to return to it.

Today I was given a plastic free lip balm (and a bar of soap) by someone who had been sent two accidentally by valleymist.co.uk. The treat of having them is such a joy, as is the lip balm - I’m probably using it too quickly! #FebruaryThoughts #Day9

Brown citrus pale ale Ghost ships bottle

I don’t generally drink beer. Tonight I was bought a pale ale unexpectedly (knowing that I’ll drink alcohol, but not about my preference). I drank 1/2 the bottle, before my son’s chess game finished early. It’s lovely to be bought a drink even if different from my norm #FebruaryThoughts #Day8

A busy day at work, so much variety. So much not done, but much done too. Including trying out a few of my initial systematic review slides, to develop for my upcoming more focused teaching. Interesting reflecting on a stage I have confidence in that I didn’t a few months ago #FebruaryThoughts #Day7

Today I had my second Action Learning Set, as part of the Aurora Women’s Leadership Development programme (and my last main #IamAurora day). Great to meet up (online) and share with amazing people. #FebruaryThoughts #Day6

Feeling so grateful for all the opportunities I’m getting to learn & progress my systematic review knowledge & skills, & proud of myself for the developments I’ve made (while being aware of make much more I still have to learn). Have made progress in various directions today #FebruaryThoughts #Day5
