Ficaria verna, lesser celandine, dark-leaved variety. Against a backdrop of very dark purpleish round leaves, three intensely yellow flowers. Each flower has a single row of shiny ovate petals around a cluster of large stamens.

Ficaria verna, lesser celandine, green-leaved variety. Against a backdrop of bright green round leaves, several intensely yellow flowers, only one in focus. Each flower has a single row of shiny ovate petals around a cluster of large stamens, and in this case, the stamens have extended to reveal the ovary in the middle of the flower.

Lamium purpureum, purple dead-nettle. From close to ground level, a large colony of the plant. Each stem has several deeply veined cordate leaves grading from bright green mature ones lower on the stem to immature reddish ones at the top. In between the immature leaves are flowers and buds. Each flower is typical "singing mouth" mint flower shape, light pink-purple with purple spots.

Magnolia stellata cultivar, star magnolia. Looking down at an unopened flower. The linear white petals are very delicately edged and speckled with deep magenta at the distal end.

This is another native plant – the Lesser Celandine. It has lovely heart shaped leaves which are dark green and some of them look a bit mottled. The flowers are a beautiful shade of bright yellow. At the bottom of the image is the text: Lesser Celandine by AlternativePerspectives.scot and the AP logo.

Lesser Celandine

This was one of the first #flowers to start flowering this spring. There was a massive patch of #Lesser #Celandine (#Ranunculus #ficaria) which had burst into #bloom.

Maybe #Dumontinia tuberosa (anemone cup) parasitic of #Anemone nemorosa in the middle of a bed of wood anemones, here presented with a sclerotium. #Sclerotinia ficariae cannot be excluded as some #Ficaria verna plants were also very close to the apothecia (Cléry-en-Vexin, FR).
