A macro photo looking down on a fly on the outside green base of a white flower. The fly has its wings folded over its abdomen, which has bee-like banding. The fly has a coppery thorax, liberally sprinkled with white pollen grains. Its face is also pollen-covered between the large, dark compound eyes.
I found this fly on a cold morning in the desert, resting in a flower. I think it's Eupeodes sp., maybe E. volucris, aka the "large-tailed aphid-eater." Larvae of many of these bee-mimic flies are voracious aphid predators, and as you see, the adults are great pollinators. #FridayFlyday #BugSky πΏπ
