While disassembling #Miata1EV, we wanted to share what worked. We reused the drive selector mechanics so that D and R were selected by new momentary push buttons. N was selected by pressing the original Leaf P.

This proved more reliable than the reed (magnetic) switches for D and R in #FrontiEV.

AI graphed some gear ratios for us. FrontiEV has 31inch tires and not expected to ever see 80 mph. These ratios seem readily available. With 200k on the trans, trying to keep RPMs below 7000. Hardbodies have 4.11 and same axle codes!

About to install the Arduino and relays for testing of HVAC system. AC hoses need to be modified before getting results. Code for the AC module, heater module, and main Arduino run file are posted!

Even though the bracket has the holes slightly off, it is close enough to make it work. Pics here are 97% complete. Last step is an access door mounted to the grill.

Resolve-EV controller does not support CHAdeMO charging on the gen3 Leafs right no. We'll mount receptacle if that changes

We are coding! #FrontiEV will have an Arduino installed to control some systems and instruments. Mostly convinced this will work! Trying hard for strong object-oriented programming to allow reuse by everyone.

We are sharing code under GPL on github. Check it out!

Cooling system is complete now that I've received elbow reducer segments. The only problem is, there's a big leak in the radiator! So close!

With the charger plugged in, battery is getting a charge and water pump is cycling the water. It's a mess...

I've gotten started on HVAC. The heating element is a preheated from VW Golf. It has three 12v that I will run through relays direct to the original Leaf fuses. I'm going to try and control relays from the Arduino. We'll see!

Already posted a video, but here are still pics from the Leaf shifter mod. Reed switches and magnets are glued in place. They provide momentary contact for D and R for the Resolve-EV controller. The parking button already works for N but check which 2 of 3 wires provide continuity

A quick update on where we are on the 2000 Frontier electric conversion. Inverter/PDM fully installed. Vacuum pump relocated. Cooling system waiting on parts. Big block in getting battery into truck bed in one piece!

Finished mockup for motor mounts. Passenger side can actually use stock Frontier mounts (which just sit in place! 🤷‍♂️). Driver side will have rubber mount with studs. Thanks to @sendcutsend for the tip on PVC sheet for pickup. These are coming your way!

Resolve-EV controller we will use has been on the shelf a while so it needed updated firmware. We also needed to solder a jumper on the board since we are using the Leaf accelerator pedal. This labelmaker has shrinktube cartridges, perfect for labeling wires! Ready to install!

The motor coupler is finished! Well, you might have assumed this from previous posts. Another Brat Industries product with final assembly by Ted's Automotive. This early version fits a little loose, so kudos to EVSwap for the tip on Loctite 660!

Details on the TRW JER107 steering pump installation. The pump will sit where the air filter was, just above steering rack. It should draw up to 80A, so wiring goes directly over to battery in front of the radiatoe. I'm using AN6 adapters to go from imperial to metric threads.

Preparation has begun for a basic tilt bed. These latching clamps will hold the front of the bed down. With the bed able to easily tilt, access and installation of battery boxes will be much easier. It also will be fun to show at Cars and Coffee. Thanks to Jimmy for the idea!

New part has arrived! Here's a quick unboxing of a custom mount for the TRW JER107 electric power steering pump I'll be using. From SendCutSend, it is made from 5052 aluminum with black anodized finish.

Motor and transmission are together! Not sure how long they will stay that way. Thanks to @bratindustries for the matching holes and threads on the adapter plate.

Everything is just resting in place. It's as far back as inverter/PDM allow, but 6 inches forward from proper trans mount.

I had big ambitions for the long weekend! The most progress was made on getting the wiring done, labeling the required Leaf PDM, inverter, and BMS wires and soldering most of them.

Not very exciting milestones, but good progress towards checking a few off!
