The Plains of San Augustin, New Mexico, near the Gila is a secluded spot where elk, cattle, and wolves mingle in arid grasslands. The #GDMBR & #CDT meander through bits of it, but you're likely to only see a rancher turning on or off a tank pump. Here the wind often howls louder than the wolves.

A large glacially sculpted mountain is tucked up in a deep U-shaped valley with its vivid, perfect reflection in the lake the takes up the entire foreground of the photo. Other peaks attached to the main peak surround a small remnant glacierhigh up in a hanging bowl.
