ISO New England Issues Power Caution Amid Unanticipated Decrease in Generation Capacity On Sunday, November 23, 2025, the ISO New England issued a Power Caution due to an unexpected decline in power generation during peak demand, causing a temporary loss of generation capacity that threatened to unbalance the region's grid. However, system operators swiftly activated standard protocols to maintain stability, and the caution was lifted by 7:00 p.m., although an abnormal alert remained active until 9:00 p.m. The incident is likely to trigger the activation of ISO-NE's Forward Capacity Market Pay-for-Performance mechanisms, with the organization currently analyzing market data that will be made public once available.

The Looming Energy Crisis in Pennsylvania: Why a State-Focused Approach is Necessary - Cozzy Energy Solutions The Looming Energy Crisis in Pennsylvania A perfect storm is brewing in the energy sector of Pennsylvania and its surrounding region. Rising demand for electricity and retiring power plants are on a collision course, putting the reliable power that everyone depends on at risk. The time has come to adopt a modern, comprehensive state energy policy to address this impending supply/demand crisis. We cannot wait for the market to "fix" the issue, especially when it's failing to bring new generation capacity online in a timely manner. PJM is working on market reforms, and while these are steps in the right direction, they are unlikely to address the immediate crisis facing Pennsylvania and our region. Pennsylvania must take charge of its energy future rather than relying solely on a regional market and merchant generators to deliver critical generation resources. A more moderate, state-focused approach can help implement a "no regrets" strategy that addresses impending energy shortfalls and provides additional tools to protect customers from price volatility and reliability concerns. One way to achieve this is by allowing regulated electric utilities to invest in generation resources, up to and including owning and operating generation resources again. This would complement the competitive market by addressing resource adequacy gaps, rather than relying solely on market forces to deliver a solution. The current energy model no longer meets the needs of Pennsylvanians. If we do not act now, we risk further price spikes, generation shortages, and ultimately, service disruptions. The solution lies in striking a balance that does not abandon market principles but provides a safety net to ensure that consumers are not left in the dark. It is time for Pennsylvania to secure its energy future with the tools it needs before it's too late. A modern state energy policy can help alleviate the looming resource adequacy crisis, providing a brighter energy future for the people of Pennsylvania.

CenterPoint Energy Leases Emergency Generation Units to ERCOT for Up to Two Years - Cozzy Energy Solutions CenterPoint Energy, Inc., listed on the NYSE as CNP, has made a significant commitment to ensuring the reliable electricity supply in Texas by leasing its large emergency generation units to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) for up to two years. As a leading energy delivery company, CenterPoint Energy operates in multiple states, with a substantial presence in the Lone Star State where it serves over 2 million customers. By partnering with ERCOT, the company is taking proactive steps to prevent potential shortfalls and maintain a stable power grid in the San Antonio region. This strategic move aims to provide critical generation capacity during periods of high demand, thereby ensuring a reliable electricity supply for consumers. CenterPoint Energy's decision not to charge its customers for these units during this period demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting the energy needs of its customers. While the initial lease agreement is in place for two years at no cost to ERCOT or consumers, the company may explore future market opportunities, including sub-leasing its emergency generation units to third-party providers. This could provide additional revenue streams for CenterPoint Energy while maintaining the reliability of the Texas power grid. By supporting the reliability of the Texas power grid and providing confidence to consumers, CenterPoint Energy's decision is poised to have a positive impact on the energy landscape in the state.

NRG Energy Joins Forces with GE Vernova and Kiewit Corp. to Develop Four New Natural Gas-Fired Power Plants - Cozzy Energy Solutions NRG Energy Joins Forces with GE Vernova and Kiewit Corp. to Develop Four New Natural Gas-Fired Power Plants In a joint effort, NRG Energy is partnering with GE Vernova and Kiewit Corp. to develop four new natural gas-fired power plants aimed at supporting the growing demand for electricity in the data center and artificial intelligence sectors. The collaboration seeks to accelerate America's dispatchable generation capabilities to meet the increasing energy needs of tech companies worldwide. The initiative aims to address the rapid growth of GenAI and data centers, which has led to a surge in electricity demand. By forming innovative partnerships like this one, industry leaders can quickly scale up power generation capacity. Robert J. Gaudette, executive vice president and president of NRG Business and Wholesale Operations, emphasizes the importance of speed and excellence in meeting customer demands. The new power plants will serve the ERCOT wholesale market in Texas and the PJM wholesale market covering 13 states in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, along with Washington D.C. The combined generation capacity of these four plants is expected to be approximately 5,000 MW. According to the companies, they plan to rapidly bring the plants online to quickly meet demand. The first facility, a 1,200-MW plant, is anticipated to begin commercial operation in 2029, with the other three facilities coming online through 2032. The first plant will utilize two GE Vernova model 7HA gas turbines, which are known for their replicability and scalability. These turbines have the potential to fill a future pipeline of 10-15 GW of generation capacity. GE Vernova's CEO Dave Ross praises NRG's selection of their industry-leading 7HA gas turbine technology, highlighting its capabilities in supporting customer growth and demand. Kiewit Corp.'s executive vice president, Dave Flickinger, expresses excitement about being part of this agreement, citing the company's long track record as an EPC contractor and commitment to meeting speed, safety, quality, and delivery demands. The new power plants will expand NRG's existing power generation portfolio, which currently boasts approximately 13 GW of capacity. This partnership demonstrates NRG Energy's dedication to supporting the growth and demand of technology development in the U.S.
