Today's virtual perambulations through parts of what used to be Ikeda Kikan's #GenjiMonogatari #源氏物語 research collection brought me to this delightful manuscript (sample double spread on left), which reminded me of this Genji album page attributed to Reizei Tameyasu (1735-1816). Maybe?

Each poem is written in two lines/columns; second poem has an attribution, and third poem has a foretext of one line. Script is cursive, strongly inked and confidently spaciously inscribed. Reminiscent (to me) of the hand Fujiwara no Shunzei (Tameie's grandfather)
direct transcription of the fragment, as follows: ときしあれ八 か者らぬ色尓 尓本ひ 気り か多え可れ尓し 新やとのさくらも 御息所 この春八 やなきのめ尓そ 多ま八ぬく さき地る累八那をそ ゆくゑしらね八 をとゝの御もとに大将を八し堂る尓 古のし多の しつく尓ぬれて さ可さ満尓 可寿三のころも きたる八る可な There are also two misekechi 見せ消ち marks, one next to the anomalous shin 新 character in poem 1, and one next to the wo を in poem 2, with so そ inserted as a correction.
Beautiful paper, beautiful script -- three poems from the "Kashiwagi" 「柏木」 chapter of #GenjiMonogatari #源氏物語. The manuscript fragment is attributed to Fujiwara no Tameie 藤原為家 (1198 - 1275), held in the Harvard Art Museum collection -- it may well have been part of an early #GenjiKashū #源氏物語和歌集 MS...

Okay, a partial check shows that the poem numbers for each chapter do *not* necessarily match the #GenjiMonogatari totals--definitely worth a closer look to see which ones are missing, & more to the point which have been _added_, if the total really is still 795. If anyone's already done this...

In other words, the poems from #GenjiMonogatari arranged by first letter, according to the I-RO-HA order -- but no headings for RO, or NI, presumably because there are no poems with those as the first letter, right? And so it continues...
