Anyone have any advice/tips for doing a Venetian cutaway on an acoustic guitar?

I really don’t want to crack the wood and have to buy more.

I’m planning to try with mango wood and if that works then spalted tamarind for another build.

My fallback is to do a Florentine.

TY

Two handmade electric guitars in front of a Xmas tree.

I almost forgot to post that I built a couple of teles for my niece and nephew for Xmas.
The most fun was giving each guitar the proper road rash and gouges.

A guitar is always better with a little mojo.

I finished it to the point where I installed strings and played it a bit.
The octave at the 12th fret is all good (my last major worry).

It looks done but I’m going to take a rasp to the neck and round it more before calling it done.

All better now.

I fixed my screwup.

I had sanded through the outer ring of the rosette.

Only took 3 days…

AAAHHHHH!

Totally blew it!

I was trying to clean up the rosette and got too aggressive.

I sanded through the outer ring.

🤬

Going to have to do something radical to fix it.

And now there are frets.

I used a fret press in my drill press for most of them except the ones that will go over the body of the guitar.

I had made the 2 file holders previously, 1-90 degrees, 1-at a bevel.

Lots of filing. They’re level.

A v.3 build of the og Nani guitar is in the works. A few years ago i had to sell the original, then a few months ago i made the v.2 but it just wasnt the same. V.3 will 100% faithful to the original with maybe a few minor performance tweaks. Stay tuned.

Working on the neck.

I talked myself into doing inlay for the fret position markers.

I would have had to somehow replace the fingerboard if I screwed this up.

It went ok.

I did the scary part.

I used a router to cut the mortise in the guitar body and the tenon on the neck.

I must be living right because it fits flush on each side with zero adjustment. 😮

Built a cradle to hold it steady.

Added the binding on the top and cut the fingerboard to final length.

And that's a wrap. OM001 is finished (for now). Not perfect but sounding and feeling great. A really good learning experience with lots of lessons to take into the next project (a 12 fret 0-28)

After attaching the top I did the scary part where I used the flush trim router to bring it flush with the sides. No tear out so yay!
Next is setting the neck angle and cutting the mortise and tenon. Another scary part.

Danish oil finishing completed on the oak back, sapele sides and okoume neck. Jury still out on the soundboard. Might sand back and do nitrocellulose.

I’m working on the neck.

Cut the scarf joint, added the heel blocks. Cut it down the middle to add a lamination.

More work on my 2nd guitar.
Adding the rosette before I can do the bracing. Also added the back wedge which conveniently hide the gap where the sides meet.

To make room for the top pick up, I decided to router out more room on the body of the guitar for the top pickup to slide in more easily.

Been working on my Cherry Cola guitar. It already felt great to touch and play and hear it sing beautifully without any feedback at all (big improvement in my soldering skills).

However, there were some other touches that I needed to make, specifically […]
