Challenge magazine has so far been more fruitful than I'd hoped, with TWO High-Trust Trad adventures in the sixteen issues I've gone through so far!

That may not sound like a lot, but going in my guess was _maybe_ 1 in 12.

Might be a lucky fluke. I'll take it. 😄

I'm diving into studying every RPG adventure published in Challenge magazine from 1986 to 1995, searching for HTT and HTT-adjacent design.

For a gamer who doesn't much like military sci-fi RPGs, I'm spending a LOT of time eyeballs-deep in them lately. 😆 Ah well.

A simple square-graph diagram emphasizing that the high-to-low spectrum of trad gameplay has "In-Character | Creation and Implementation" as the intersection labeled High-Trust and "Out-of-Character | Selection and Application" at the lowest. The graph is tilted slightly to indicate that the axes are not evenly weighted. The intersection of "In-Character | Selection and Application" is labeled "Upper Medium" and, due to the tilt, sits visibly higher than the "Lower Medium" intersection of "Out-of-Character | Creation and Implementation."

What's high-trust trad? Look at the gameplay (and only the gameplay) in these terms. Trad play is high-trust when gameplay centers on the PCs creating and implementing their own solutions to problems.

A pure-text image outlining the basics of what makes a High-Trust Trad adventure. In short, an HTT adventure describes one or more problems the PCs solve cretively, in-character.

I'm always on the hunt for modern examples of the HTT adventure form!

If an adventure depends on scenes, set-pieces, story, encounters, puzzles, location-crawling, or staged moral choices: it's not HTT.

If it's made of _problems,_ though ... I want to promote and celebrate it!

I really do believe that _every_ RPG playstyle, including those I don't care for, have their strengths.

One of HTT's oddball strengths is that it's great at dissolving the distinction between PC triumph and PC failure.

This isn't on the list of things most gamers notice about it.

Hammondal & Trust Over on the Dice Camp , groovy questioneer  luxet asked a question both compound and substantial, so I'll treat it as a mailbag entry here ...

I have bloggified. What's trust got to do with FRP worldbuilding?

What it means to be an HTT gamer:

GM Driven: Nah, no thanks.
Player-Driven: Definite no.
Rule/Procedure-Driven: None for me, thanks.

Richly Tactical? Yes! Don't mind if I do!
Roleplay-Driven: Oh yes. Yes please. That's the spot. 😅
