At “Supra”, the café and restaurant on the third floor of the Turkmenistan Pavilion in the Empowering Lives Zone of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The semi-circular box seats are decorated with red Turkmen carpets. The backrests feature “gul”, an octagonal geometric pattern that serves as a kind of tribal emblem. Some tables also have a single-flower vase placed on them. On a tray placed on the table are a watermelon juice, an iced latte, and Pişme. “Pişme” means “something baked” in the Turkmen language. In Turkmenistan, it is a tradition to welcome important guests with Pişme, a fried wheat pastry, at the entrance. Crispy and fragrant on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, it has a simple yet delightful flavour. In addition to indoor seating, terrace seats are also available.

In front of “null²” in the Signature Zone of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. Produced: OCHIAI Yōichi. Designed: TOYODA Keisuke of Noiz. Concept: Mirror. The exterior consists of stacked mirror-like cubes made from stretchable materials, allowing the building itself to expand and contract through vibration. The façade employs a special mirror membrane that combines both elasticity and reflectivity. This unique material was developed over two and a half years by Taiyo Kogyo Corporation specifically for this pavilion and has been named “Mirror Maku.”

At the MAKAN MAKAN café, attached to the Malaysia Pavilion in the Empowering Lives Zone at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The café is supported by a restaurant called A Dining. Nasi Goreng Kampung is served in a paper takeaway container. “Nasi Goreng” means “nasi = rice” and “goreng = to fry”. “Kampung” translates as “village” or “countryside”, giving the nuance of a homestyle, comforting fried rice – like the kind a mother might cook at home. Top left of the container: lettuce and a halved boiled egg. Top right of the container: fried chicken and Potato wedges. Bottom: Nasi Goreng Kampung. The café itself has only about 20 table seats, so people often share tables or make use of the takeaway to enjoy their food under The Grand Ring instead.

At the Water Plaza of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The “EXPO” letters are red and the “2025” letters are blue. Each one transformed from an individual Co-MYAKU character into the shape of the letters. Including the pedestal, the monument is 1900 mm high, 1600 mm deep, and 3100 mm wide.

夜のミャクミャク像と大屋根リング
万博⑨
・日傘、帽子は必須。
軽装、スニーカーがおすすめ。
・やりたいことや行きたい所は会場マップに書き写してアナログで持ち歩くと分かりやすい。
・入場を待つ間の飲み物があれば、会場内にはたくさん自販機やコンビニがあるので追加で入手可能。
それよりも荷物を少なくした方が体のためになる。
・パビリオンの予約は1-2個で十分。
暑さに体力を奪われるので、必死にパビリオンを回るより、大屋根リングや会場内をうろうろ歩いて雰囲気を楽しむ方がラク。

夏休みだからか、ミニ花火大会が開催された。
花火大会自体が久しぶりだったので、短いながらに楽しめた。
結局万博会場には21時頃までいた。
21時26分発の電車に乗れたのは平日ならではかも。

イタリア館の後はチュニジア館へ。
平日だったのに1時間ほど並び、展示内容が360°のパネルに映される動画2本というのには拍子抜けしたけど、カフェの丸座卓｢ミダ｣に座ってのんびりできたのは良かった。
ごまがかかったパリパリのお菓子、サモサ…美味しかった〜。

私がイタリア館に来たかった理由は、カラヴァッジョの｢キリストの埋葬｣とダ・ヴィンチの直筆メモ。
思わず呼吸を止めて見入った。
これらの展示の後に、ポンペイについてのパネル展示などもあり、興味深くじっくり楽しんだ。

念願のイタリア館。
最初にショートムービーを見てメイン会場に移動するんだけど、3画面の液晶が90°回転して会場への入口になったのがワクワクした。
教科書で見た伊東マンショの肖像画はもちろん、ミケランジェロの彫刻やアトラス像を、目で触れるという表現がぴったりなほど近くで鑑賞できたのはいい経験だった。

大屋根リングのエスカレーター付近にあるこみゃくのイラスト。たくさん種類があるうちのひとつ。
ウォータープラザで行われた水上ショー。
オーストラリア館を背景に、ラミントンというお菓子を持っているところ。
ラミントンの断面 チョコとココナッツで覆われたふわふわの生地の中に薄くベリー系のジャムが入っている。
万博④
昼食後は、夕方に予約できたイタリア館まで、会場内をうろうろ。
暑さと日焼け対策のため、基本的には大屋根リングの下にいたけど、大屋根リングを歩いてみたり、ウォータープラザで水上ショーを見たりした。
小腹が空いてきたので、オーストラリア館併設のカフェでラミントンなるお菓子を買い、食べる。
優しいチョコの味にココナッツとジャムがアクセントになって、するする食べられた。

最初はe Moverという会場内を周回してくれるバスを活用してお土産を確保。
夕方に行ったのも含めて各オフィシャルショップには最低2回訪れた。
10時入場で、東西のオフィシャルショップを巡っていたら昼食の時間に。
この日はマレーシア館のロティーチャナイを食べた。
2種類のカレーが思ったより似た味だったけど、甘めの生地に合う、やや酸味のある味だった。
