When will politicians like #EdMiliband and #LouiseGittins realise that #HyNet, #BlueHydrogen and #CCS are false solutions that'll worsen the climate crisis? They're buying a fossil fuel industry lie and paying for it with billions of pounds of public money.
Heads up #EETFuels. Hydrogen makes sense in a few industrial applications and very little else. Refining crude isn't one of them. #HyNet is critically flawed because its key application is refining climate wrecking fossil fuels and prolonging their use.
The fossil fuel industry is insidiously entering universities including @ljmuofficial.bsky.social, @manmetuni.bsky.social and @wrexhamuni.bsky.social to recruit graduate students. Worse still, @liverpooluni.bsky.social is collaborating with #HyNet.
We've lodged an appeal against the refusal of our application to seek a judicial review of the government decision to allow captured carbon dioxide to be stored in #LiverpoolBay as part of the #HyNet scheme.
Advocacy in favour of #CCS predominantly comes from #BigOil majors including #BP, #Shell and #HyNet partner #Eni, along with the #CarbonCaptureAndStorageAssociation which disproportionately represents the fossil fuel industry and has consistently engaged with the government since 2008.

In 2022, @wrexhamuni.bsky.social was the first university in #Wales to ban fossil fuel industry recruitment on its campuses. Yet here it is, hosting #HyNet which is a front for #Cadent, #EETFuels and #Eni to carry on pumping gas and dumping carbon dioxide. Students deserve the truth.
#BigOil behemoth and #HyNet #CCS partner #Eni has been fined €336million for rigging fuel prices. In 2022, it leaked 80,000 litres of oil into the #IrishSea. Eni isn't a fit and proper company, yet its pocketing huge taxpayer subsidies. Why #DESNZ?
Labour MS carolynthomasms.bsky.social has raised concerns in the Senedd about the environmental impact of the #HyNet carbon dioxide pipeline which will plough through communities, conservation sites and watercourses in #NorthWales. She's the only politician to speak out.
Instead of paying #HyNet and #Eni £22billion to develop #CCS, the government should be funding more renewables, upgrading and expanding the energy grid and investing in #ElectrificationInnovation so high carbon industries like cement and glass manufacturing can go green.

The government is exploring plans by @climeworks.bsky.social for a #DirectAirCapture facility as part of #HyNet. The #DAC process is expensive and energy intensive and Climeworks has faced significant criticism due to its technology failing to meet capture targets.
#CCS is a fanciful technofix which lacks a credible track record. Schemes like #HyNet will impose unlimited financial liabilities and huge environmental costs on the UK and help dirty energy to sideline renewables. The government must #StopFundingCCS now.
