just rewatching the talk i did for #iac25 (but did not give in person because not flying to the USA rn) and i was like "wait a minute, *i* can follow this advice"
I had a deeply affirming and restorative experience at #IAC25, an information architecture/UX conference, last week. Just a buncha thoughtful practitioners who care deeply about human-centered design! My heart has grown three sizes.
It was so great seeing this in person! Thank you for closing out #IAC25

Dear presenter: we are taking pics of the screen because the venue is having you use tech from 1993. We cannot see the projected image on a screen sitting 100+ feet away in a well-lit church.
This is an accessibility issue, not an attention issue 🙃

Listen: @brownorama.bsky.social gave an opening for heckling at #iac25 and dear lord I took it and I'M NOT SORRY. (I mean, how WILL people learn about the history of the company if its not in the top nav???)

Good Morning #IAC25!
We sent a first timer to meet you all! If you see our table, stop by to say hi and ask how to sign up for the raffle for a chance for a signed hardcover of How to Make Sense of Any Mess.
Especially appreciating Nate Davis' last point in his #iac25 talk that information architecture isn't just about digital, it's about information, and information is everywhere
Austin standing at podium speaking in front of the wooden benches of the Arch Street Meeting House, slide on screen next to him shows Dan Hill’s face and title saying “Find a Maguffin” subtitle “am excuse to have a conversation about something else” and a quote “"An object, event, or character in a film or story that serves to keep the plot in motion despite lacking intrinsic importance”
At #iac25 @austingovella.bsky.social is dropping some valuable wisdom on being strategic about structure even when your work context doesn’t necessarily expect or ask for it.

- encoding and fidelity leads to transparency around loss of data.
When we encrypt and think about fidelity, we lose information, but could be used as a thumbnail. We need to make sure it is fit for use - #IAC25
- who is involved when we gather information and their contexts (how/when/historical contexts). Help to define what the data is good for.
We could have a completely good, consistent set of data, but if we do not have the right people, it might not be accurate. -

- giving context to information so people can use it.
Data quality has always been an issue since the automation of data capture and storage -

extremely FOMOing #iac25 rn, however not traveling to the states until further notice
