A month ago today I gave a presentation at #IMCC7 that brought receipts on whether the global 30x30 movement is resulting in more and better marine protected areas globally (HINT: It's not)

It was great attending #IMCC7 last month! I presented my work with Global Fishing Watch data identifying the corporations behind the Global Distant Water Fishing Industry and presenting previous work on the companies that beneficially own the high seas fishing industry

Very cool to see a live example of coastal rewilding while at Blouberg beach with the fam today. As mentioned in my talk at #IMCC7 this was one example that came up in my recent review on marine rewilding.

They all worked really hard! It was very stressful and you are so anxious about all the things that can go wrong or about bankrupting the program etc etc. SCB needs a next generation of board members and meeting organizers. I hope some #IMCC7 folks get inspired to volunteer!
Organizing and hosting conferences is a TON of work. Generally under or unpaid work, for insufficient recognition. My HUGE gratitude to all the organizers and local hosts of #IMCC7 for their efforts to put together a fantastic meeting! You are appreciated ! @whysharksmatter.bsky.social
