At #INCOSAI25, the INTOSAI Future Award went to Dr. Hussam Alangari of Saudi Arabia’s General Court of Audit for his innovative leadership and the Saudi FISP program, supporting SAIs in developing countries to build capacity and strengthen performance.
The General Plenary appointed new members to Governing Board at the #INCOSAI25. SAI Indonesia was appointed the first Vice Chair. The US GAO & SAI Norway are reappointed as Governing Board members & host institutions of the INTOSAI Journal and the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI), respectively.
The #INCOSAI25 further deliberated on the needs for enhancing the role of SAIs in economic crises. The language discussions were led and moderated by leadership of the SAIs of Liberia, Israel Jordan, Canada, Tunisia, Senegal, and Chile.
Ms. Lama AlHammadi, Executive Vice President for Financial Audit and Compliance of #SAISaudiArabia, spoke about the need for strengthening internal controls during times of financial crises. #INCOSAI25
Ali Abdel-Aal, Head of Sector #SAIEgypt, presented audits conducted on initiatives taken to support citizens during times of economic crises. SAIs play a critical role during economic downturns to assess and evaluate how effective these initiatives are in achieving their desired results. #INCOSAI25
Steve Sanford, Managing Director of the U.S. GAO, provided an overview of the 7 key findings of the survey conducted by the INTOSAI Working Group on Financial and Economic Stability as part of the theme 1 paper discussion. #INCOSAI25
After a discussion panel, moderated by Auditor General Karl Eirik Schjøtt-Pedersen of Norway #INCOSAI25 divided into language groups to further discuss the use of #AI techniques in auditing. The language groups were led by SAIs of Germany, Saudi Arabia, France and Spain.
At #INCOSAI25, Ahmed AlQurashi, CPA, of SAI Saudi Arabia shared how the General Court of Audit is using #AI to boost audit efficiency and insight. He noted that AI supports judgment and documentation—but is an enabler, not a replacement for auditors.
At #INCOSAI25, Auditor General Nancy Gathungu shared how Kenya’s OAG is pioneering #AI in public auditing—driven by a young, dynamic team. Through its System Assurance & Data Analytics Unit, SAI Kenya is building strong data, secure IT, & full legal compliance.
At #INCOSAI25, Jan Roar Beckstrøm of NAO Norway (Riksrevisjonen) shared how auditors can tackle auditing #AI in government—reminding that AI isn’t magic but an IT system. A recent audit urged ethical principles for AI use. Learn more: www.auditingalgorithms.net
Mr. B.K. Mohanty, Director General and Chief Technology Officer of SAI India, shared three case studies of how SAIs can employ #AI in #performanceauditing, to support #datacollection, risk assessment, and image analytics. #INCOSAI25
During the theme II discussion at #INCOSAI25, Gareth Davies, Comptroller and Auditor General of the UK National Audit Office, discussed the use of #AI in financial audit. Mr Davies provided some example of how the UK NAO has adopted a range of technologies, including machine learning for fraud risk.
At #INCOSAI25, Oxford Professor Helen Margetts discussed the science of better government in the age of #AI — highlighting its potential to improve access to gov't information and conferring citizen rights, while urging attention to #equity and #bias.
The survey findings included an overwhelming optimism about #AI impacts, with a majority believing it can enhance audit results and have an advantage in #riskassessment, but recognizes the need for algorithm literacy and #digitaltransformation. #INCOSAI25
#INCOSAI25 ’s 4th day commenced w/ discussions of theme II, "The Use of #AI Techniques in Auditing”. President Mohamed El-Faisal Youssef of #SAIEgypt introduced the theme as chair, & shared survey results from within INTOSAI about AI integration & implementation perspectives in the audit community.
PASAI Chief Executive Esther Lameko-Poutoa shared with #INCOSAI25 how PASAI continues to deliver impactful support, helping SAIs access audit training, quality assurance, & twinning partnerships. Its focus on #SAIindependence and climate change adaptation audits has strengthened accountability.
Mme. Fadhila Gargouri, Premier President of the Cour des comptes of Tunisia and ARABOSAI Secretary General, showcased how the ARABOSAI Strategic Plan 2023–2028 is building stronger, more professional, independent, and future-ready SAIs in the region. #INCOSAI25
Controller General of Paraguay & OLACEFS President Dr. Camilo Daniel Benítez Aldana shared the OLACEFS region's many accomplishments to support SAIs, including robust training programs, coordinated audits, knowledge sharing platforms, and strong cooperation amongst the OLACEFS community. #INCOSAI25
Auditor General Pamela Monroe Ellis of Jamaica & CAROSAI Secretary General highlights how small-resource SAIs in the Caribbean achieve high standards through training, peer learning, and strong partnerships, boosting capacity and innovation across the region. #INCOSAI25
Auditor General Kai Hou of China & ASOSAI Gen. Secretariat shared at #INCOSAI25 how ASOSAI boosts members through capacity building, knowledge sharing, & collaboration. Highlights include working groups on #SDGs, environmental & IT audits; the ASOSAI Journal, & the Young ASOSAI Excellence Program.
Mme Zineb El Adaoui, Premier President of #SAIMorocco and General Secretariat of AFROSAI, shared AFROSAI’s progress during a period of change, incl. governance structure reform, successful implementation of Strategic Plan 2022-27, & transfer of its Secretariat from Cameroon to Morocco. #INCOSAI25
The INTOSAI General Secretariat, Dr. Margit Kraker, spotlighted the Secretariat’s top priorities and accomplishments during #INCOSAI25, including SAI independence, financial oversight of INTOSAI resources, #SDGs, and the growing momentum of the INTOSAI Communication Officers Network.
Today we launched the summary of cooperative audits on #ClimateAdaptation, a flagship cooperation with @wgeasecretariat.bsky.social and INTOSAI Development Initiative.
