Chandrayaan-5 Rover to Be 16× Bigger Than Pragyan, Launch Planned by 2028
India is preparing for a major leap in lunar exploration as Indian Space Research Organisation plans to launch Chandrayaan-5 by 2028. The mission will feature a massive 420-kg rover, making it 16 times heavier than the Pragyan rover used in Chandrayaan-3.
Designed for advanced science, the new rover will be capable of drilling deeper beneath the lunar surface and conducting detailed studies to search for water ice, a critical resource for future human missions. Chandrayaan-5 is expected to significantly enhance India’s scientific presence on the Moon and strengthen its role in next-generation space exploration.
