Mexico wants Adidas to pay up after Mexican-American designer launches Indigenous-inspired shoe By Raul Cortes MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -Mexico is looking for footwear giant Adidas (OTC:ADDYY) to pony up after a Mexican-American designer, Willy Chavarria, working with the firm launched a shoe inspired by a traditional Indigenous sandal, authorities said on Friday. Chavarria, who has been hailed in the United States for his work bringing Latino issues to light - including his controversial collection touching on the alleged gang members locked up at El Salvador’s notorious CECOT prison - recently dropped the "Oaxaca Slip On" shoe, a sneaker sole topped with the weave of Mexico’s huarache sandals. Critics in Mexico argued that the shoe uses the name of the southern Mexican state, a major manufacturer of the traditional leather sandals, while Chavarria’s design is manufactured in China and Indigenous artisans received no credit or benefit from the multinational firm. "Big companies often take products, ideas and designs from Indigenous communities," Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum said in her morning press conference. "We are looking at the legal part to be able to support them." Deputy Culture Minister Marina Nunez confirmed that Adidas had contacted Oaxacan officials to discuss "restitution to the people who were plagiarized." The dispute is the latest by Mexico to protect its traditional designs from global fashion firms, having previously lodged complaints against Zara-owner Inditex (BME:ITX) and Louis Vuitton. Chavarria said in a statement on Saturday that he was "deeply sorry that the shoe was appropriated in this design and not developed in direct and meaningful partnership with the Oaxacan community." His approach fell short of the respect the community deserved, he said, stating that his intention had always been to "honor the powerful cultural and artistic spirit of Oaxaca and its creative communities," the statement added. Chavarria, born in the United States to an Irish-American mother and a Mexican-American father, had told Sneaker News in a prior interview that he had intended to celebrate his cultural heritage through his work with Adidas. With ADSGN making headlines, savvy investors are asking: Is it truly valued fairly? In a market full of overpriced darlings, identifying true value can be challenging. InvestingPro's advanced AI algorithms have analyzed ADSGN alongside thousands of other stocks to uncover hidden gems. These undervalued stocks, potentially including ADSGN, could offer substantial returns as the market corrects. In 2024 alone, our AI identified several undervalued stocks that later surged by 30 or more. Is ADSGN poised for similar growth? Don't miss the opportunity to find out.

Indigenizing Art & Design Education Symposium Please join us as we continue to develop strategies in centering Indigenous Art and Design pedagogy, and in direct partnership with Indigenous knowledge keepers Trinity Poolaw & Andy Jacobs, members of the Lenni Lenapexkweyok Collective.Part public program, and part visioning workshop, we see this symposium and future offshoots as challenging the status quo, improving our support structures for our Indigenous colleagues and student body, and strengthening our own research practices in service to a wider college-wide initiative around decolonizing design. With an Indigenous speaker/facilitator line-up, we are ensuring an important step towards decolonization: the centering of Indigenous people and their lived experiences.A closed visioning workshop with New School stakeholders will be held in the afternoon to develop actionable and comprehensive strategies for scaffolding, developing, and supporting Indigenous ways of knowing and being into our community.(NOTE: While we do not expect to keep time strictly, we offer this schedule for your guidance. The general public is welcome 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The afternoon session is for New School community members only.)Schedule:  9:30AM - 10:00AM - Arrival & check-in10:00AM - 10:45AM - Welcome & framing remarks, Trinity Poolaw & Andy Jacobs, Lenni Lenapexkweyok Collective.11:00AM - 12:00PM - Conversation facilitated by Trinity Poolaw & Andy Jacobs12:00PM - 1:00PM - Lunch (provided) & Mingling+++++++ Afternoon sessions are open only to members of The New School community (students, alumni, faculty, and staff) +++++++1:00PM - 3:00PM - Thematic breakout conversations (rotating every 30 minutes)3:00PM - 3:30PM - Break & mingling3:30PM - 5:00PM - Visioning session

Matakohe Architecture shares how it uses kaupapa Māori Jade Kake talks to Tom Raynel about how kaupapa Māori influences Matakohe's designs.

Integration of kaupapa Māori principles into their designs is a commendable step towards culturally responsive architecture. However, ensuring these practices are authentically maintained as the firm scales will be crucial. 🏠🌿 #IndigenousDesign #CulturalIntegrity"
