Historically the field of #ScientificVisualization operated in 2D or 3D using large compute infrastructure, with volumetric vector-fields being a standard application.

This is a fantastic example of data visualisation being used in a manner that allows us to observe emergent properties over time and draw conclusions that individual data sets would not make immediately apparent.

after difficult deliberations, i have just declined the kind invitation to this year's #infovis program committee of #ieeevis.
from now on, i will refrain from volunteering for conferences or journals that have not moved to an #openaccess model.
