It was a running gag in a #newsroom where I worked: If news broke of a grisly crime, the other copy editor & I looked @ each other & deadpanned: “He was a quiet man“ b/c that’s ALWAYS what someone says afterward. It’s a general purpose filler #interviewees say instead of “I didn’t know him.”
