neurodivergentrebel > Texas m A major change in Texas' involuntary commitment law will take effect September 1, 2025, adding "anosognosia" (the inability to recognize or understand the severity of one's own mental illness) as a valid reason for cops to detain people for mental health evaluations (if they "believe that inability could lead to harm"). This expands the grounds for emergency detention (beyond the previously required "substantial risk of serious harm"). Every article I find about this is paywalled. The order proposes pushing states to keep the homeless in jail even if there's nowhere to discharge them to; increase #InvoluntaryCommitment; deny shelter to men; end #HousingFirst, safe drug #ConsumptionSites and #NeedleExchanges; and does nothing to increase housing. 👎
