Use case: Photomapping. I'm working on one downloaded area, and I've got about as much as I can from my own local imagery stash. There's tens of thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands of photos, and they're already uploaded to Mapillary and/or Panoramax. They're all in one Geotagged Images […]

Thing that should be possible in #JOSM, but inexplicably isn't (and is causing me pain)...

Using lasso or rectangular selections to select multiple images for bulk modification/deletion. You can select an arbitrary number of photos and delete those in one swoop, but only by clicking each […]

JOSM Open Street Map Editor for Beginners YouTube video by Jonny McCullagh

There’s a lot of great apps to update specific information on #openstreetmap.
And basically everything can be updated through the iD editor on www.openstreetmap.org.
However, the most efficient and fast way to do more in less time, is the dedicated #JOSM software:

The image shows a city plan of Lisbon as it appeared around 1911. Streets and roads are drawn in light gray, and the rivers and streams are shown in blue. The map is dotted with many small red shapes, each marking the location of an industrial chimney. The lower part of the Alcântara River valley is highlighted in a very light orange. A small inset photograph depicts a view of that valley, featuring numerous smoking industrial chimneys. Below the map, a wide photographic panorama of the riverfront is displayed, taken from a hill overlooking the Tagus River. Several industrial chimneys are highlighted in orange. Most of the chimneys visible in the photograph cannot be identified on the map. A scale bar appears at the bottom right of the map. On the left side of the layout, there is a text column containing the title, description, and technical information.

The image shows the Lisbon city plan with the streets drawn in light gray. Several areas are marked on the map, identifying different forms of landuse, related to growing food from the ground. These areas include urban vegetable gardens (in green), orchards (in orange), vineyards (in purple) and generic farmland (in brown). A scale bar is present on the bottom right. On the left side there is a text column with the title, description, map legend and technical data.

The map shows six partial city plans from cities around the world, illustrating differently shaped city blocks. The plans are presented in two lines. On the first line, from left to right, are shown the cities of Curitiba in Brazil (triangular city blocks), Houston in the USA (square city blocks) and Mexico City in Mexico (rectangular city blocks). On the second line, from left to right, are shown the cities of Shanghai in China (a pentagonal city block), Singapore (hexagonal city blocks) and Athens in Greece (city blocks shaped like lozenges). Below the images there is a text block with the title, description and technical data.

The map shows four different views of the same area in the southwest part of Lisbon. The top-left image shows an area with a small hill and a fortress located on the southwestern edge of the city (Algés/Restelo), as represented in the original 1904–1911 map. The area is mostly undeveloped, with a small palace (Palácio Cadaval) at the bottom. The contour lines are visible, though lightly traced. The top-right image highlights the contour lines from the same map, showing their highly detailed representation of the area. The bottom-left image overlays those contour lines onto a recent aerial view of the same area. It is now mostly residential, with one of the lowest population densities in the city. The hill surrounding the fortress has been incorporated into the Monsanto Forest Park. The bottom-right image presents an approximate 3D view of the same area, generated using Google Earth with the Terrain and 3D Buildings layers enabled. Below the images there is a text block with the title, description and technical data.

The map has the title and description on the top left and technical data on the bottom left. The Lisbon city area occupies the right two-thirds of the whole drawing area. The city plan is shown using hundreds of points that identify traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, both plotted inside the municipality contour. There are no streets directly drawn in this city plan, since the points themselves trace the latent structure of the major city streets. A scale bar is present on the bottom right.

Is the #openstreetmap API a bit flaky today? Or is it just that #JOSM is too busy making 'AI'-generated rodents? 😂

More secure logins, dark mode, and more predictability Hot on the heels of last month’s major style updates, we’ve deployed an upgrade of the main OpenHistoricalMap website and server API to match OpenStreetMap’s website and API as of mid-November. This brings in a couple major changes that may impact your workflow. Basic authentication bites the dust While editing OHM in JOSM, you may see a cryptic error message such as: Authentication at the OSM server with the username ‘…’ failed. Please check the username and the password in the JOSM preferen...

If you edit #OpenHistoricalMap in #JOSM or in #DarkMode, pay attention to this month’s website upgrade:

Heute festgestellt, dass man mit #josm echt gut GPX-Daten bearbeiten kann.

Erspar mir daher jetzt den Weg über #qgis wo ich die Daten umwandeln und dann wieder zu einem GPX Track umwandeln müsste.

The image shows two views of the same area of riverside Lisbon, centered on the Torre de Belém monument. The first view shows the area as it appears in the "Silva Pinto 1911 City Plan", which was the first highly detailed map of Lisbon created in the 20th century, presenting the entire city at a 1:1000 scale. The second view shows a rendering of the same area as it was edited in JOSM as a digital twin. This second views exemplifies a highly detailed way of mapping a small geographic area. There is a text block above the two views with the title and another below them with a description and technical data.

Four images with four different views of the Sorraia River valley in Portugal. From top to bottom, the first image shows only the location of center-pivot irrigation areas, presenting a series of circles, half-circles, quarter-circles, and smaller circular segments. The second image shows the same shapes overlaid on a digital elevation model of the valley, along with the river's course. The third image shows the same shapes and elevation model, and also all additional water resources present in the valley. The fourth image is a satellite view of the valley, overlaid with the circular shapes. There is a text block on the top with the title and another at the bottom with the description and technical data.

The content in these copies is reproduced in white over a deep blue background - hence the term "blueprint".
