A luge is a kind of sled that slides down a track, and etymologically this may make sense. Sled and slide come from the Proto-Indo-European root *sleidh- “to slip, slide”, slide coming into English through Old English slidan and sled through Middle Low German sledde. Luge comes from the Savoy dialect of French, from Medieval Latin sludia, which may come from a Gaulish word from that same Proto-Indo-European root.

I remember during the #Luge, #Skeleton, and #Bobsled events at the Beijing 2022 #Olympics, the coaches of Team Austria would shout (or maybe bark?) at their athletes as they'd tear out of the starting section.
Now, it seems that a lot of other country's coaches are doing the same at these Games. 😂
I don't like the Olympics. Period. Aside from the corruption and the exploitation involved - both of which have been well documented - the whole parochial commentary and counting of medals makes me want to vomit.
But it's impossible not to love the curling and the luge. 😍
