We will discuss as #Lablit Emma Cook's You Can't Hurt Me shortly. I can confirm it is a crime/thriller - I was unsure! Quite melodramatic.

Approx 70 pages left I shall breeze through tomorrow! I am still uncertain how to categorise it. Perhaps that is a good thing. Anyway, no spoilers though I had an insight around page 110 I think it was, that I will surely discover is right or wrong in the last 20 pages! #booksky #lablit

I still have 170 odd pages of the book we will discuss tomorrow as #lablit - Emma Cook, You Can't Hurt Me. 1/3 plus in still not sure if it is a crime story, family drama, or thriller! Not read the blurb or precis.

This is a very good novel ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š

My own #scifi favourite genre, is set in a contemporary or very near future, with some particular scientific development/innovation, that forms the core of the story... that is I suppose why I like #lablit, I like a story that seems close to possible.

It is the USA's #blackhistorymonth (October in UK) - thought I should mention over the month some relevant authors of #Lablit. I won't do all now...

Books I read in January. Of these, I recommend The Silver Bone and The Bloodless Boy. Both are historical crime novels, one set in pre/just-about Soviet Kyiv, the other in restoration London. The Silver Bone has a very slight tinge of magical realism, The Bloodless Boy fits into #LabLit nicely

It would be true #lablit if the mathematician featured more strongly. It should appeal to those who enjoy short stories by the way. I do not want to give away anything though! #booksky

we discussed the very very #lablit lite - to the extent it is not really eligible I can say -
Eight Detectives by Alex Pavesi
middling scores - enjoyed but with reservations from some. Was highly praised by many reviewers as a novel novel, playing with the detective genre #booksky โšก๐Ÿ“š

I donโ€™t often go for audio, as I get easily put off by iffy narration, but I am enjoying this bit of historical mystery featuring Robert Hooke of the Royal Society as a detective

Cruz-Smith & Kerr (who wrote a #lablit about Newton that I have not read) are very good. I'll try some of these others! ta ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’™ #booksky

I think I'll have to ask @jennyrohn.bsky.social if we should add this Arthur Ransome to the #lablit list as it has an ornithologist - I read ot a very long time ago & gave away my beautiful hardback copies in the last century #booksky

Under 3 stars, but #lablit as it portrays a "scientist renowned for his work in the Pain Laboratory" - a scientist in a novel that is not sci-fi

So sorry - busy week & was away Mon/Tues & Thurs.

I missed the discussion of Effie Black's #lablit In Defence of the Act -I enjoyed, bar the odd infelicity... she writes malt for moult, & her spider species name on one page ends with an 'i' & later does not. Mixed reception I'm told! #booksky

A Sunday without #lablit in the reviews I saw... but been designing & executing a Yule card which has swallowed my day. Then my printer ran out of ink. At least I have time to send them & that won't be rushed... When I have posted them all (I send about 60) later this week,I will share it here...

Really enjoying In Defence of the Act by Effie Black - a biologist studying suicide might not seem a subject with humour but I think there is humour in her writing. #lablit #booksky

As I understand it, women read far more fiction than men so one would expect more women to publish fiction. When I looked at the balance of books on the #lablit list, It turned out to be about 50-50 over the list. More female authors in recent years writing fiction with scientists as characters.
