"Flight crew tested negative to drug" -NSIB releases preliminary findings on Arik Air incident The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has released a preliminary report detailing extensive damage to an Arik Air aircraft following an in-flight engine anomaly. On February 11, an Arik Air Boeing 737-700 aircraft operating Lagos to Port Harcourt flight diverted to Benin airport after the crew “heard a loud bang from the left engine”. The aircraft, operating flight W3-740 with registration 5N-MJF, was descending into Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, when the incident occurred. The aircraft had seven crew members and 80 passengers on board, bringing the total number of occupants to 87. According to the report, the aircraft was climbing from flight level (FL) 260 to FL 290 when the crew heard a loud bang followed by excessive vibration from the number one (left) engine. A post-occurrence inspection conducted by NSIB on the aircraft on the apron at Benin airport revealed significant damage to the engine and other parts of the aircraft. NSIB said the engine inlet cowling was missing, while the number six fan blade of engine had broken off with only the root remaining attached. “The remaining 23 fan blades were all chipped off and damaged; inboard and outboard engine cowling covers were folded upward, exposing the engine accessories; the engine-driven pump (EDP) clamp was found loose,” the report said. “A deep cut about 0.6 inches long on the containment case was observed at the 2 o’clock position; a long, deep cut about 7.2 inches on the containment case was observed at the 1 o’clock position; cracks were observed on the exterior of the engine case containment.” The NSIB said the outlet guide vanes (OGV) at the five, six and seven o’clock positions were missing, while the engine-driven pump and exhaust assembly sustained visible damage. The bureau also found that the engine oil tank filler cap was missing and the anti-ice duct was broken, with part of it missing. Other affected components included the left-hand vortex generator and the integrated drive generator (IDG) oil cooler, according to the bureau. “There were dents and punctures at various locations on the airframe, damage to the inner and outer thrust reversers, there were cuts on the Left wing leading edge, the left-wing air conditioning bay fairing was damaged,” the NSIB added. The bureau said more damage was recorded on the left horizontal stabiliser leading edge and the upper surface of the stabiliser, which had large cuts. The report also showed that the vertical stabiliser leading edge and the rudder surface were also damaged. ‘AIRCRAFT SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED’ The report classified the aircraft as substantially damaged, noting that no injuries were recorded among the occupants. Despite the incident, the NSIB said communication between air traffic control and the flight crew remained effective. The bureau added that post-occurrence medical examinations were conducted on the flight crew, and they tested negative for alcohol, drugs, and other psychoactive substances. The NSIB said further investigative actions will include metallurgical examinations of the broken number six engine fan blade root and the remaining 23 fan blades, as well as a teardown of the number one engine as part of the ongoing investigation. * __ Facebook * __ Twitter * __ Linkedin * __ Pinterest Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday **Advertise on NigerianEye.com to reach thousands of our daily users ** ## You Might Also Like Latest News in Nigeria « PREV __ __NEXT »

Google just nerfed the recent apps screen on Pixel devices Android offers many different ways to take screenshots and save images that might be of use to you later on, and with Android 16 the recent apps screen on Pixel devices was one of those ways. At least, until recently. It looks like Google has removed the ability to directly save images on the recent apps screen on Pixel devices. This is reportedly part of the Android 16 QPR3 update that went out to devices this month. If you weren’t familiar with this function, that’s understandable. It’s easy to miss unless you actively pay attention to it. If you’re like many, though, you probably open recent apps just to swap between open apps, and not much beyond that. However, utilizing the screenshot and select functions from this screen makes for nifty little quick snippets of stuff you might want to share or save for later on. Select lets you pick from any of the images showing up in the recent apps picker for each app. It also lets you select any of the highlighted text. While screenshot just takes a screenshot of the entire thumbnail for whatever app is in focus on that screen. These functions have reportedly been downgraded, but only if you’ve installed the Android 16 QPR3 update. ## The recent apps screen direct image-saving functions are gone with Android 16, but not for everyone It’s worth noting that while this feature will probably be changed for everyone eventually, Pixel users who haven’t installed the Android 16 QPR3 update should still have access to the old way these functions operated. If you use these functions a lot, you could get around their change by avoiding the update. Assuming you haven’t already installed it. The way it used to work is that you could hit the select option and then tap an image, and a save option would appear. There would also be options for sharing the selected image, or getting more information via Google Lens. Now, a there is no direct “save” option. In its place is a new large panel that comes up from the bottom of the screen. The panel should show you all available options for sharing the image. That includes sharing directly with another person through messages and the like. If you want to save it to your phone, though, your options are to share it with Files by Google to download it, or with Google Photos to upload it to your Photos library. The end result is the same, but it’s not as seamless.

Buy from #### Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus $1,099 Pre-order your Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus now for the deepest discounts and pre-order bonuses, including up to $900 in instant trade-in credit! Buy from We have been promised for years that AI assistants would eventually handle our digital chores. After plenty of hype and several software iterations, that promise is finally becoming a reality. As part of a new update, Google and Samsung have launched a feature known as “screen automation,” and the results are as impressive as they are slightly surreal to watch. Currently live on the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, this new capability allows Gemini to take control of specific Android apps to perform tasks on your behalf. ## AI in the driver’s seat: Exploring Gemini’s new task automation on Galaxy S26 Early testers suggest that the experience of using task automation is like watching your phone “use itself.” For example, when asking Gemini to book an Uber, the assistant handles the destination entry and skips unnecessary steps, such as specifying an airline terminal if it isn’t required. The system is even smart enough to handle nuanced requests, such as ordering a “Medicine Ball” tea from Starbucks—a popular off-menu name—and correctly identifying it as Citrus Honey Mint Tea, according to Android Central tests. One of the most helpful aspects of this automation is how it handles the “grunt work” of delivery apps. If you ask for a specific meal from Uber Eats or DoorDash, Gemini will scroll through the menu, customize your items, and add them to your cart. It even knows to ask for clarifications, such as whether you want your pastry warmed or which airport you are heading to. _Source: Android Central_ ## Safety and control Despite the high level of autonomy, the system does not have free rein over your credit card. Google has built in a mandatory pause at the very end of every task. Once Gemini has filled the cart or set the ride details, it sends a notification—often accompanied by a strong vibration—to hand control back to the user. You must personally review the details and hit the final “confirm” or “pay” button to complete the transaction. Users can also set permanent preferences within Gemini’s “Personal Intelligence” settings. This lets the AI remember specific instructions tailored for each one without a constant reminder. For instance, only book the cheapest Uber ride or always choose gluten-free foods. ## Availability and compatible apps The first list of supported apps is mostly for travel and food. Some of these apps are Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Grubhub, Uber Eats, and Starbucks. Currently, the feature is only available on the Galaxy S26 family for users in places like the US and South Korea. However, it will also reach the Google Pixel 10 series—without an ETA yet. For now, this remains a beta feature, and like any new technology, it has its limits. It cannot yet handle complex multi-stop rides, and some users have reported occasional glitches that require a reboot. Still, it’s a great first step towards true mobile agentic AI. ## Win a Samsung Galaxy S26! Want to try your luck? Our ongoing big giveaway with ROKFORM gives you the chance to win a Galaxy S26 device. ROKFORM is also offering one of the best cases you can find for the S26 phones, so you can also check it out.

Businesses Are Choosing Anthropic’s Claude AI Over OpenAI's ChatGPT in 2026 For a long time, the “AI wars” were fought in the sterile arena of technical benchmarks. Tech giants would trade blows over who had the highest scores or the fastest response times. But as we move into 2026, the most important aspect is actual data spending. When looking at the 2026 landscape for the Anthropic vs OpenAI market share battle, Claude is becoming the preferred AI choice for businesses. ## Anthropic’s Claude wins 70% of new business against OpenAI The most striking evidence comes from the Ramp March 2026 AI Index, which tracks real-world corporate credit card spending across more than 50,000 businesses (via The Neuron). The standout figure is a complete reversal of previous trends. Among companies purchasing AI services for the first time, Anthropic now wins approximately 70% of head-to-head matchups against OpenAI. To put this market share shift in perspective, a year ago only one in 25 businesses on the Ramp platform paid for Anthropic. Today, that number has jumped to nearly one in four doing so. While OpenAI still holds a dominant overall position, its adoption rate recently suffered its largest single-month decline (1.5%). Artificial intelligence is an industry where “first-mover advantage” usually dictates the winner. So, these numbers suggest a big disruption in the enterprise market share hierarchy. ## Identity as a moat Why would businesses shift their market share toward a platform that often has stricter usage limits? Ara Kharazian, an economist at Ramp, suggests the answer isn’t just about the technology—it’s about identity. In early 2026, the contrast between the major players sharpened. While OpenAI leaned into massive government contracts, Anthropic maintained a safety-focused stance. This “cultural moat” has turned the Anthropic vs OpenAI market share 2026 battle into something akin to the “blue bubble” status in iMessage. Choosing Claude has become a signal of professional identity for engineers and researchers who value precision and transparency over sheer scale. ## Two diverging ecosystems Data from a16z’s Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps report confirms that these two platforms are no longer trying to occupy the same market share niche. Despite both hosting hundreds of connectors, there is only an 11% overlap in their app ecosystems. On the one hand, OpenAI is evolving into a consumer “super-app,” focusing on travel, shopping, and food services. Meanwhile, Anthropic is doubling down on professional infrastructure, stacking integrations with financial terminals and developer tools. This specialization means that once a team “trains” an AI on their specific workflow, the cost of switching becomes immense. ## Claude’s recent improvements Perhaps the most tangible reason for Anthropic’s emergence in market share is its recent focus on user experience. The company recently launched inline interactive visuals. This new feature allows Claude to generate charts and diagrams directly within the conversation. Unlike previous tools that required separate downloads, these visuals are part of the chat flow and update in real-time. The movement clearly seeks to win the UX battle as a way to capture the market share. While it has a clear professional focus, Anthropic has also tried to attract general users. The company recently launched a “switching tool” that allows users to move their interaction history from other AI chatbots (such as Google Gemini and ChatGPT) to Claude. This greatly reduces friction by eliminating the need to “teach” the AI everything about yourself again. That said, the fundamental operational differences between Claude and chatbots designed for general use are proving to be a stumbling block for some users who switch.
