Who remembers the Leeds Skywalk? In the early 70s, all new buildings in the city centre were required to add an external raised pedestrian walkway. It started at Millgarth with various sections extending over to the Bank of England but it never linked up completely.

Queen Victoria in front of Leeds Town Hall. Moved in 1937. I assume everyone knows where she is now? Whatever your feelings on the monarchy, it’s a fine statue which surely should have a more prominent site than it currently does….

It was a tricky one this as it’s changed so much, took me a while to work it out but the faint Imperial Hotel sign on the tower on the right is the clue. Photo was taken on Briggate from near Whitelocks, looking down towards Boar Lane. #LeedsHistory
Looking busy in town this lunchtime! The bobbies seem to be keeping an eye on the lads with the hats and sticks mobbing up outside the tea dealers, the road is blocked with stage coaches and someones dog’s escaped. Anyone recognise where in Leeds it is?

Bonfire night in Blandford Gardens, Woodhouse, LS2 in the days before Health and Safety and Public Liability insurance when you just burnt your ‘chumps’ at the end of the street!

Some great footage of Elland Rd Jan 1927 -Leeds v Bolton FA Cup 4th round. Attendance given as 42,694 but looks a lot more. Leeds playing in the Huddersfield kit chairman Hilton Crowther made us wear in a season that saw us relegated from division 1.

I thought this was an easy one as it looks pretty much the same today but only one person got it right. It’s the junction of Briggate and Boar Lane opposite McDonald’s with Holy Trinity church in the background.

The Windmill club was at 97 North Street, now Lovell Park council houses. The club was run by Eugene Lacey with wrestler big Jim ‘Gargantua’ Moran on the door. Apparently Des O’Connor lost a lot of money in a card school there one night. I doubt he argued much about it!

Looks like a Harlem speakeasy in the 1920s but this was actually a Leeds club, popular with well known ‘characters’ in the late 50s and 60s. Anyone know its name and where it was?
