The Montparnasse office tower towering over some regular Paris buildings.

This is the closest we come to having a skyscraper in town (typical Haussmann buildings for scale). I'm glad someone said stop before they built more.

I haven't been in an English-speaking country in a while, and it shows.
Me in a English second-hand bookshop in the Latin Quarter just now: "You take card?" 🙈

15yo is preparing her CV for the compulsory internship coming up this spring. Under "interests" she listed "movies/shows".
I remarked I'd read on CV advice sites to avoid this.
DH simply added "in the original language" to give it value. 🙂

After a cold and grey week we got a sprinkle of snow and blue skies today.
I'm off into town to see if there's snow in Paris too. (I doubt it.)

I think those doors might be out of order. I could be wrong, but somehow I don't think so.

(There were much fewer stickers yesterday.)

I learned years ago from my Parisian DH what that means.

15yo is making plans for her friend's visit, asks about the Musée d'Orsay: "Do they have old paintings in there?"
DH starts answering that the Md'O covers a specific time period (1848-1914) but stops, reminding himself: "For 15yo anything from before 2000 is old."

DH was working from home today. As I came back from work, he told me: "I fixed the leak."
Me: "The one at the Louvre? That was quick!"

Mission: Travel to the northern end of my métro line to pick up 15yo's transport pass which she lost at the east side of town. Since we live south of town, on the way back I'll ride the entire length of my métro line, 25 stops. But as DH says, at least I'll be sure to have a seat.

Street numbers follow the river There's a system to street numbers in Paris - it's all about the river!

When I go to an address in town I've never been to, whether a doctor or something else, I discover a neighbourhood I otherwise wouldn't have gone to. #LifeInParis

At the supermarket with DH and 15yo. I love that they leave me (technically the foreigner) in charge of choosing the cheeses (yes, plural).

La Baguette Is there anything more French than the baguette?

After all those years I've lived in France, I still get stressed out at the bakery. I'm here to buy a "(baguette) tradition" but they don't have any just now. What do I take instead? #LifeInParis

DH wanted to see the helicopters land this #BastilleDay🇨🇵, not take off at the end of the afternoon. So we skipped the parade on tv and came straight to Invalides. Impressive. 🚁
I'd still like to fly in a (civil) helicopter once. At the #TourDeFrance would be cool.

There's a really steep street across from our place. I went down there on my bike yesterday freaking fast and the speed sign showed me at 27kph. #TourDeFrance riders go at an average of 40-50kph - on a flat road!
Gives you some perspective.

In the morning, I listen to a public French news radio station for my dose of news for the day.
Today, it was a quintessential French experience:
Half the program was replaced by music due to a strike, the other half was about the current heat wave in France.
RoW? Tomorrow. Maybe.

We had a thunderstorm on Wednesday night. Took down a lot of trees in the western part of town.
It's one thing to hear it on the news and another to see this tree I walk past every morning. (This was later on Thursday. But clean-up must have gone on during the night already.)

14yo got the results (and correct answers) of her road traffic rules test today, and DH and I had a good laugh at some of the questions. 14yo scored 100%. Us? Applying our real-life Paris experience (both on foot and by bike), not so much.

Forget taxi drivers or cyclists or scooters. The most dangerous category on Paris streets is two-wheeled delivery guys (yes always guys). They don't respect a single traffic rule, not even the very basic "drive on the right" one.
I've had so many near-accidents in my lunch breaks.
