I have an idea for mitigating #linkrot:
A script that takes a #html file (probably blogpost), finds external links, and for each link it creates a popup that appears on mouse hover. This popup includes the link, it's title, publish date, tl;dr (written by you), and buttons to open the link in […]

The rise of linkrot: What happens when the internet starts to disappear? We love to say the internet is forever, but all the dead links out there are a reminder it’s only forever if someone’s willing to pay for it.

"... in the short term, it seems absurd that Google preserves snippets of what used to be on a website and sell advertising on the search results, even though the ability to read and see it for yourself is gone."

Found an item cited as “Blog post, no longer available”. Found the (indeed defunct) URL cited in an earlier paper by one of the same authors. Used that to find the post archived on archive.org; added the archive.org URL to the citation.

7/8 Beyond current politics, the Archive battles "link rot"—the epidemic of broken links across the web.

A Pew study found 38% of web pages from 2013 were gone by 2023.
