Shift in System Risk Patterns Driven by Load Growth and Weather Trends Across the 15-State MISO Region A recent study by MISO's Loss of Load Expectation (LOLE) project reveals a significant shift in system risk patterns across the 15-state region, with cold weather and off-peak times becoming increasingly important factors driving energy demand, rather than traditional summer peaks. This change is attributed to rising solar resources, increased load growth, and enhanced models for extreme cold weather, which will impact grid planning reserve margins and inform MISO's efforts to optimize energy production and reduce market losses, including a previously discovered software error that affected LOLE calculations since 2017.

It makes small solar installations just another appliance that anyone can buy and install. This has big implications for #affordability, #loadgrowth, and greater control for homeowners AND RENTERS over their energy. Big #resilience impacts too, tho that's more complicated.

This doesn't mean we move away from #solar deployment. We just have to recognize that is a period of crisis everyone is focused on the batteries and the flexibility we can unlock to accommodate #loadgrowth. You either help unlock economic development or your become a second priority.
